NEW YORK - The NFL indefinitely suspended Michael Vick (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20429109/#) without pay Friday just hours after he acknowledged in court papers that he did, indeed, bankroll gambling on dogfighting and helped kill some dogs not worthy of the pit.
Vick, however, insisted he placed no bets of his own nor took any winnings.
In disciplining Vick, commissioner Roger Goodell (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20429109/#) said Vick’s admitted conduct was “not only illegal but also cruel and reprehensible” and regardless whether he personally placed bets, “your actions in funding the betting and your association with illegal gambling both violate the terms of your NFL player contract and expose you to corrupting influences in derogation of one of the most fundamental responsibilities of an NFL player.”

That whole "suspended without pay" thing has got to be huge for the Falcons. The league may just end up letting them off the hook for that monster 130 million dollar contract.(At least I think that's what it was)

As of right now, Vick is OFFICIALLY screwed.

Vick screwed himself - trying to act all 'gangsta' with his "Bad Newz Kennelz" . This meltdown couldn't have happened to a nicer slimeball.

I hope he falls twice as far, and hits bottom twice as hard, as Mike Tyson.

This thug is getting what he deserves. Doesn't ATL get a break on his salary since the NFL suspended him and not Atlanta? I may be wrong, but when all this started, I think I remember a column stating if Atlanta suspended him, they would take the cap hit, but if the NFL did it, then they would get the cap space back. Anyone more informed than I am on this?

From the league's standpoint, the Vick case is closed for now. Goodell doesn't have to do anything for one or two more years, however long Vick is going to be imprisoned. As Goodell did with Tank Johnson, the commissioner will deal with Vick after he gets out of confinement.
The next -- and most interesting move -- belongs to the Falcons. The Falcons are off the hook for Vick's $6 million salary this year and probably the $7.5 million he is due in 2008 if Vick is still in prison. What Goodell did Friday was free Arthur Blank to recoup signing bonus money or even cut Vick for violating his contract by gambling.

Did you read the letter? Wow! Goodell sounded pretty pissed!

i wish Goodell had banned him permanently rather than indefinitely.
His actions should make any contract with the Falcons null and void, period.
