Chris Ostrander, of BuffaloBills.com, reports Buffalo Bills TE Derek Schouman is fighting for one of the least tight end spots on the roster.

Interesting given Derek's versatility

Matt Murphy has been cut like 3 times already and has done nothing to solidify a roster spot, schouman at least is tailer fit for the position, and has potential, Murphy is another castoff bum form another team,

i never thought he would be a shoe in, unless they keep like 5 TEs/H backs

I think he'll be put on the practice squad. Afterall, wasn't he a 7th rounder? Why do those guys have to be shoe ins?

I figure Schouman would probably end up on the PS. He's a late round draft choice and while Boise State has been a real upstart program lately, it's still not a Pac 10 school or an SEC school etc. Schouman is undersized for a traditional tight end, so he doesn't have the versatility of moving out of the backfield and up to the line of scrimmage. I think he could make the team eventually, but I think he's almost got to be to the point where he would start before the Bills would keep him on the roster.

Bubble Battle at Tight End

With the implementation of the H-back position in 2007, the Bills have opened the door for using more tight ends on the field on any given play. With the new position the tight ends on the roster have been split between H-back and the traditional position on the line.

It appears that Brad Cieslak and Ryan Neufeld have settled into the H-back role while Kevin Everett and Robert Royal are still holding down the traditional spot. The question is where the Bills fill in depth, at H-back or along the line?

Matt Murphy and Derek Schouman are the ones battling for the fifth and final tight end position on the team if in fact Buffalo chooses to keep five. But who will be more valuable to the team when the final decision is made?
