A lot of Bills fans openly questioned why the Bills took a quarterback with their third round pick in the 2007 NFL draft, when the team has so many other obvious needs.
Some of these same fans now think Trent Edwards should be given serious consideration for the starting job ahead of J.P. Losman. Are they wrong?
Totally. But that sure isn't to say Edwards hasn't been impressive, or could make a run at the #1 job some day. He has been more than impressive in many ways, and certainly justifies the selection. I daresay a few NFL teams wish they'd taken a shot at the 6-4, 230 pound qb from Stanford.
The pre-season stats are something else. Edwards saw the most playing time in pre season and put up some eye-popping numbers.
He completed 41 of 61 passes for 432 yards with a touchdown with no interceptions. That's a qb rating of 99.9, and a completion percentage of 75.4. That's a wow factor. Edwards was sacked five times, but he did show good mobility, running for 30 yards on 9 rushes......
