A lot of Bills fans openly questioned why the Bills took a quarterback with their third round pick in the 2007 NFL draft, when the team has so many other obvious needs.

Some of these same fans now think Trent Edwards should be given serious consideration for the starting job ahead of J.P. Losman. Are they wrong?

Totally. But that sure isn't to say Edwards hasn't been impressive, or could make a run at the #1 job some day. He has been more than impressive in many ways, and certainly justifies the selection. I daresay a few NFL teams wish they'd taken a shot at the 6-4, 230 pound qb from Stanford.

The pre-season stats are something else. Edwards saw the most playing time in pre season and put up some eye-popping numbers.

He completed 41 of 61 passes for 432 yards with a touchdown with no interceptions. That's a qb rating of 99.9, and a completion percentage of 75.4. That's a wow factor. Edwards was sacked five times, but he did show good mobility, running for 30 yards on 9 rushes......

This was the same debate last year. Marv brought in Nall and JP wasn't his choice so Nall was going to unseat JP.

There's no debate as far as I am concerned. The only thing there is, is a feeling of comfort in knowing that we have a backup who has great potential. It's no debate unless JP blows all season, or JP gets hurt mid-season and Edwards steps in and plays like a Pro-Bowler.

I don't have a problem with this. JP knows he has to be more than just mediocre this year. Even Kelly pointed out that this year is the year he has to establish himself as the franchise qb. I hope JP does step up. He's done more for the community in such a short time inspite of growing up in the west coast.

Edwards played well for a rookie, sure. But, he did play against the second and third strings with alot of dumpoffs. I like his potential, but JP throws the best long ball in the league and showed great improvement last year and I would love to see what he does with the new offensive line and Lynch coming out of the backfield.

That being said, if JP stinks up the joint the first couple of weeks, it will be very interesting on here with Edwards putting in the preseason he had.

Only a Dummy would want Edwards to start over JP right now.

                I agree. Mid-season will suffice.

AVP ripped up the pre-season too.

Edwards never sees the field unless JP allows it to happen. There is no debate, which makes this whole thread mis-leading.

No debate. It's JP's job to lose. Edwads is still only a rookie, but he looks comfortable and looks like a leader on the field. I feel comfortable with him in there as a backup. I said from day one, nall sucks. I'm not surprised he got cut.
