The 5-year-old son of NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer is in a "critical-care situation" at a Northern California hospital after a virus attacked his heart earlier this week.
"This is a very hard time for us," Dilfer said Saturday night as treatment continued for Trevin Dilfer.
Trent Dilfer, who elevated Fresno State to national-class status before launching his NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1994, declined to provide additional details regarding his son.
"Maybe in mid-week," said the current Seattle Seahawk who helped lead Baltimore to a 2001 Super Bowl victory. "Please respect our privacy and know we're going through a very difficult time."
