All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
Bills LB Coy Wire reportedly suffered a torn, not sprained, MCL in Week 1.
John DiGiorgio has emerged as the leader to start on the weak side while Wire and Keith Ellison (high ankle sprain) recover. Wire is out indefinitely. Source:Buffalo News
Can you provide the exact quote please? I can't find any mention of Wire's MCL in the article you linked to, nor is it mentioned in the article entitled "DiGiorgio stepping in for Wire" from yesterday's Buffalo News.
EDIT: Never mind, found it.
"Outside linebacker Coy Wire, who had stepped in for the injured Keith Ellison, is out indefinitely after tearing the medial collateral ligament in his left knee."
The way it's phrased makes you wonder if it is really a "tear" or a poor/incorrect choice of words. Seems like they would make more than a passing comment about it if there was a major change in diagnosis like that.
Odd that they did not say so earlier or put Wire on IR. Sometimes a player can experience partial tear and is not necessarily out for the season. I guess this is wait and see for a bit.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.
I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.
Even if its a partial tear, the MCL can heal itself, over time. How long depends on the person and severity of the tear. The MCL is the only ligament in the knee that can heal itself because its the only ligament with blood flow to it. All the other ligaments either require surgery or person may lose some physical ability to perform.
My daughter missed 3 weeks of soccer when she sprained/partially tore her MCL. She was playing in 3 weeks and started her second game back.

Kids with this type of injury are completely different than adults with this injury. When was the last time you saw a kid get knee reconstruction? You can twist kids into pretzels and not do any damage.
I'm not sure of the last time I saw an MCL heal on it's own in an adult.
