Bills have signed CB Jerametrius Butler and released Josh Scobey

Scobey was useless even on ST anyways. Now he can join Shaud and Manning on sundays when they watch the games.

He might be able to get back to the 4 and 5 interception form from a couple years ago. Nice signing, considering what is probably out there.

But seriously....good. He sucked ass.

I like him better than the Webster signing. At least Butler has a more promising past, albiet also injury riddled like Webster...oi...let's see if Butler can last more than 1 game and beat Websters record.

See ya later, Scobey! Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out. :snicker: Now hopefully the coaches will be smart enough to give Roscoe Parrish a shot at KR. He's good at it.

probably, but I would give him another week's rest with kick returns. We need him on the defense.

True...and the way the offense is playing its not like Parrish is getting winded. He's barely on the field! Plus Parrish only can run a kick off back once a game because we never score. Never understood why we didnt do that last week, but at least it made the coaches realize how worthless Scobey was.

Four weeks into the season, you just plain are not going to find young healthy well rounded free agents who have just the right amount of experience and lots of upside asking for only a modest contract. You're looking on the scrap heap. You find guys like Butler who had a promising career then caught the injury bug. You find old guys who can't cut it any more. You find young guys who aren't quite good enough. You might find a few guys demanding more money than what they're worth.

It makes little sense to complain about who the Bills sign because they are signing leftovers. That's all there is out there. You hope he's got something to give to the team, but there are no guarantees

If anyone wants to complain about anything it's not making the right moves in free agency and being stuck with the horrible starters in some spots and the backups behind them even worse.

How do you know he is a good KR?

If he is good at PR then he should probably be good at KR. They are similar.

What makes you think he wouldn't be good? Is it because he is fast, elusive, great in the open field, or a dynamic player?

Finally a good CB who has been a starter.

Finishing last week's game with just three healthy cornerbacks and Terrrence McGee anything but a lock to play this Sunday, Buffalo signed cornerback Jerametrius Butler (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#) Tuesday to add some veteran experience to the secondary.

Decimated by injuries particularly on the defensive side of the ball the Bills had to trim their roster at a position of surplus to address the shortages elsewhere. Running back and special teams contributor Josh Scobey was released to make room for Butler.
http://assets.buffalobills.com/uploads/news/BD98DB320CAB4F449C9E241C42FE03DE.jpg
Butler was signed by the Washington Redskins this past June as a free agent after he was released by the club that made him a fifth-round draft choice in 2001, the St. Louis Rams, but the Redskins released him Aug. 28.

The six-year veteran enjoyed his most productive seasons in St. Louis under then Rams secondary coach Perry Fewell (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#). From 2003-2004 Butler made 31 starts, had 150 tackles and nine interceptions.

Butler however, was slowed by injuries the past two seasons with a knee injury wiping out his entire 2005 season. A lingering hamstring injury last season allowed him to appear to just six games in 2006.

Nevertheless he is familiar with Buffalo's defensive scheme having played a similar version in St. Louis and should be able to contribute quickly.

Meanwhile Scobey who signed with Buffalo as a free agent this past offseason, was kept on the roster primarily for his special teams abilities, despite missing most of training camp with a calf injury.

Scobey's role was expanded this past week as a kick returner with Terrence McGee (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#) suffering with bruised ribs. He had a total of 112 kickoff return yards on five attempts for 22.4-yard average against the Patriots. But with four other healthy running backs on the roster in Marshawn Lynch (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#), Fred Jackson (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#), Anthony Thomas (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#) and Dwayne Wright (http://buffalobills.com/news/news.jsp?news_id=5301#), Scobey became expendable

OP, he actually was pretty decent CB for the Rams at one point. I'm kind of interested to see how this turns out. This is a guy I thought they should've gone after when he was cut. Hey, it's better than another practice squad player off the Bears roster!

Boss is a Rams fan and said they wasted Jerametrius Butler's talent in St Louis and expected him to do a lot more. Not surprised about Scobey - he was good before and they wanted to give him a chance after preseason injury.

P.S. Please include in title the news. I almost missed this post and posted a news story from AP.

Why isn't on BillsZone? Editor chase away the reporters or are they in a post-game funk.

Roscoe was dropping them before on kickoffs and getting more negative yards than positive. Kick offs do not appear to be his thing.

There's always room to debate what the Bills did between the end of last season and training camp. They had options then. Now they simply have to react to the slew of injuries as best they can.

If they are worried about him injuring himself on ST, he should be a much bigger part of the offense.

Mr. Pink

There actually is a difference in KR and PR, besides just different blocking assignments and first guys to miss. The main difference is on KR, generally the ball goes in an end over end pattern, making it easier to catch and judge where it's going...generally. Meanwhile punts are more like a spiral, when the ball is kicked properly.

Some good KRs struggle with punt returning because of this difference. I guess it's harder to judge where the ball is exactly going to be going from a spiral than end over end. I know Joshua Cribbs-who is awesome on KR struggled mightly last year on PR and muffing the ball.

I hate to say it but I watch Parrish get pushed around alot. I don't remember how big Desmond Howard was but he had the exact same issues. Parrish is fast and elusive but if he gets knocked around he gets completely taken out of plays.

The idea that Reed, Parrish, and Price are good compliments to Evans is somewhat hilarious.

I know no one seems to like Price because of his inconsistency, but he made some key catches on that TD drive. The fact is, this whole offense is inconsistent, actually its consistently bad. Parrish and Price have been our best Wrs so far, which isnt saying much BUT they can produce and if you think about it, Price usually makes nice plays when given the chance. Think of his TD catches last year, he makes great sideline tip-toe catches also. Parrish is our leading receiver so far and I have seen him get lit up by Ray Lewis and jump to his feet instantly so are our receievers amazing complients, not at the moment, but with more stability they can be and thats without mentionning Reed. Lets just get some quality play-calling.

I think that someone over there does pay attention to this board. Probably Chris Brown. I mean if I was a coach I would definitely be curious as to what the fan base was saying about me and suggesting. In fact I would probably sign up.
