If we dump the Cover 2...

I want to bring in Pass Blitz specialist Jon Tenuta from Georgia Tech, he maybe the craftiest blitz guru in all of football and I would love to see what he can do on this level. Somebody will scoop him up soon and I think he'll really show what he's made of.

every team wants to change schemens when it doens't do well, instead of blaming the players. the ginats kept trying to blame the scheme the last 2 years, until they changed it and still sucked and now blame the players. as a jet fan alot of us are balming the 3-4 but i blame the players. we need more talent on defense period. so do you guys.

yes and no- the problem with the cover 2 is that you need near perfect talent to make it work, and we're not even close. It's a soft D that isn't predicated on stopping the run, and every blitz creates yet another hole in a zone that's already ful of holes. The ONLY way it works is if you can get pressure from the front 4, and it's very difficult to find guys who can do that on a consistent basis.

Other schemes aren't quite so reliant on the perfect talent- talent in general will do.

exactly. which is why TB ran it so good. great corners (barber and kelly) great d-line (included sapp and rice)

and indy runs it good (mathis, freeny, mcfarland)

it takes pressure w/o blitzes and small fast LBers and safeties and CBs that can cover alot of ground and can tackle (but don't have to be great cover guys) to make it work.

the other problem is that they are gathering talent that can play this defense...switch to another defense and do you have to scrap half the players?

For all the education and practice each of us undergoes, the achievment of mastery is ultimately the outcome of a personal quest for understanding.

bro lol i dont think that would be much of an issue

who would u like to keep

i dont think schobel denney and kelsey would have much of an issue going to a diff scheme. they did all play under GREG WILLIAMS 4-3

crowell played well in the old 4-3

POZLUSNY would be fine in a different scheme im sure of it hes a football player

all of our DT's suck anyway mccargo has been coming on and i dont think he was from a cover 2 scheme in college

ohio state dont play cover 2 so whitner would be fine so would youbouty

mcgee played his best years in a non cover 2 D for buffalo

i dont think FS will be an issue it will only be a bonus that KO simpson is fast

long story short most of the guys we have on D have played in a different style 4-3 defense right here in buffalo

cover 2 or man under or man over 4-3 we still need help at DT,LB and CB

at least we would be trying to make plays not forcing other teams to check down.

that's the big problem we've been having. I don't like the cover 2 at all it's been figured out and leaves excessive holes in the backfield that are exploited. I'd like to see us switch but you have to build what you have. Switching means more rebuilding. We are going to have to develop some patience it's not going to happen over night.

Yes it does and Im all in favor of that, at this point we have very little to build off of. On Defense we need; 2 DT's, 2 DE's, 3 LB's, 2 CB's, and a SS (Note: Not all these are starting positions), on Offense we need 2 OT, 2 OG, 1 OC, 3 WR, 2 TE, 1 QB, and maybe 1 RB. We really arent far from the idea of blowing up the current scheme and going with something new that may actually work.
