Scout's Notebook: Bills FS Jim Leonhard

Notes: Went undrafted and signed with the Bills in 2005, contributing in 10 games as a rookie, mainly on special teams, after being the only undrafted player to make the squad. Finished with five tackles in ’05 and notched 13 through 15 games in ’06, when he was a mainstay on special teams and made some key blocks to spring big gains in the return game. Entered game for an injured Ko Simpson vs. the Broncos in the ’07 season opener and started his first game of ’07 vs. Pittsburgh, notching 25 tackles and two interceptions in first three games.

On paper, he would not appear to be big or fast enough to make it, but he is scrappy enough to get the job done.

That should be his new nickname: Scrappy Do.

It sure sounds nice when they state that Leonard has 25 tackles in three games.

The problem is that his man was open enough times, or that the DL / LB corps were unable to stop the run well enough to allow Leonard to make those 25 tackles.

You really never want to see anyone in your secondary racking up the tackle stats.
Still searching for that offensive rhythm.

The FS is the last man usually to prevent a score like the kicker on a kickoff and he has been doing HIS job. He has been solidly tackling from what I have seen and has been the only one intercepting the ball as well.

The problem is the same problem we have seen last few years. I do think they should replace him in Red Zone though with someone who has a bit more mass.
