There’s no sense in leaving Losman to hang around to rue what might have been

The heartbreaking insanity of Monday night’s finish fails to obscure that the time has come. There is no controversy, only opportunity; no need to ponder, just a call to act. At least five NFL teams are in dire need of a quarterback, a young quarterback, someone who might grow into the position. If General Manager Marv Levy does his job that list will soon be reduced to four.
It’s unforeseeable there will ever be a better time for the Bills to unload J.P. Losman and make an emphatic commitment to the Trent Edwards era. Edwards is their guy. He’s the one with the uncanny field vision and a general’s knack for leadership. He’s their future, their bright, promising future, and there’s no sense in leaving Losman to hang around to rue what might have been.
It’s Losman’s misfortune that his knee was hurt when it was, which opened the door for Edwards, who has made himself right at home. Perhaps J.P. would have taken hold of the job once and for all if good health had been on his side. But what’s done is done. Just like Depew’s Don Majkowski, unseated in Green Bay by Brett Favre, and just like Drew Bledsoe, displaced in New England by Tom Brady, Losman has fallen victim to an injury that proved the backup should be the starter. And now it’s in the best interests of Losman and the franchise if he carries on elsewhere...........
