The winless St. Louis Rams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=stl), decimated by injuries at safety, have added unrestricted free agent Bhawoh Jue (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=5518), a versatile six-year veteran released by the San Diego Chargers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=sdg) this summer.

The Rams (0-5) were forced to place Jerome Carter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7293) on injured reserve after he fractured his right foot in last Sunday's game. Starting strong safety Corey Chavous (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=4294) has been battling a strained pectoral muscle and backup Todd Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=6436) is less than 100 percent as well.

Jue, 28, has played every secondary position, including as a nickel defender, and should be able to provide some relatively quick relief and flexibility to a battered unit.

A native of Liberia and a former Penn State standout, Jue has appeared in 77 games and has 151 tackles, 1½ sacks, six interceptions, 26 passes defensed, and two forced fumbles. He was a third-round choice of Green Bay in the 2001 draft and played four seasons with the Packers before signing with San Diego as a free agent in 2005.

Used some at cornerback when he first entered the league, Jue made the move to safety as a rookie and has extensive experience at both safety positions. Jue has good ball instincts, is a solid if not physical tackler, and can also play on special teams.

Jue suffered a knee injury early last season that required arthroscopic surgery, came back to play into November, but then finished the season on injured reserve. Although he went to camp with the Chargers, he was released before the start of the season.

St. Louis also signed free agent wide receiver-return specialist Brandon Williams (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7833), a former third-round pick of the 49ers. To create a roster spit, offensive lineman Jeremy Parquet (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?statsId=7414) was placed on waivers.
