Looks like the NFL is finally giving some back (http://cbs.sportsline.com/nfl/story/10429474) to the old players with health issues:

The NFL added $10 million to its medical fund for retired players Wednesday, designating the money for joint replacement surgery, cardiovascular screening and assisted living.

The sum will be added to a $7 million fund agreed upon in July by the league and its players' union. It will be supplemented by money from player fines, plus contributions from the NFL Players Association and other retired players groups.

It's fair.
If they managed their millions or 100's of thousands better, they could afford assisted living like everyone else has to. But medical bills stemming from work are a different story. It's a step in the right direction for the NFL. Good win for the retired players! :bf1:

$10 million, that's peanuts to a billion dollar league. They should be ashamed. That was a pure publicity move. A bandaid placed on a gaping wound.

At least its a start, I bet it gets added to substantially in the next CBA.

Unfortunatley there are former players, many retired players that are in crisis.
At least it's a start is not enough.

they should be doing that every month for a while.

they should be doing that every month for a while.I think in the next CBA instead of increasing the cap by the biggest amount possible they should instead spread a lot of that money around to the retired guys with medical issues. No reason not to with the insane amount of money getting thrown around right now.

Its not like the current generation of players would really feel the loss. Plus one day they will be retired and looking for some of that sugar themselves.

It's up to the owners, imo as well. They need to step up and make it happen.
