When Chiefs running back Priest Holmes went down with a hip injury late last season, it opened the door for Mike Cloud to showcase himself for the upcoming free agent market. Now, that door has been slammed shut.

SportsLine.com has learned Cloud, an unrestricted free agent, has been suspended for four games by the NFL for violating the league's policy on anabolic steroids. The suspension will be served in the first four games of the 2003 season.

According to sources close to Cloud, the Chiefs RB used a protein drink from a well-known supplement company. That protein drink actually had traces of a known steroid -- Nandrelone -- although it was nowhere on the label. In addition, simple protein drinks are certainly not supposed to be laced with a banned steroid....
