Donte Whitner telephoned his old Buckeye buddy, Ted Ginn Jr., this week for the usual catch-up. After the requisite exchange of good humor, the Buffalo Bills safety let Ginn know that, friendship aside, "If you cross my path, I'm going to get a hard hit on you."
Anyone who watched Whitner knock Cincinnati's Chad Johnson out of last Sunday's game in Buffalo understands how much wallop he packs.
"I never got to hit Ted in practices at Ohio State," said Whitner, sounding a bit disappointed. "The coaches wouldn't allow it." In Bills training camp, however, coaches couldn't get enough of Whitner crashing his squatty 208-pound body into receivers.
The man delivers fierce hits, but there is no bluster or celebration. He'll probably just stand over Ginn smiling if he gets a lay-out blast in this game.
"A grin. ... That says it all," Whitner explained.
