The 1983 Kaneland grad who played football for a tiny college in the northern tip of Nebraska should never have been a high-round NFL draft pick. He should never have played nine seasons of pro ball that included six trips to the Super Bowl -- more than any other player in NFL history.
But Beebe did all that and more. So it would only make sense that, after retiring from the game in 1998, he should be pulling in at least six figures as a coach somewhere, most likely from Buffalo or Green Bay, which both offered him jobs. Or he should be calling play-by-play action in an ESPN announcer's booth. At the very least, he should be running the offense at a Division I university.
