Dick Jauron wasn't smiling when he arrived in the postgame interview room late Sunday afternoon. The Bills' head coach seemed a trifle sheepish about his team's 13-10 victory over the winless Dolphins. The first thing Jauron said was that he didn't believe in ugly wins.

There was no need to apologize. Ugly? You should have been in the locker room afterward. Coy Wire was quoting the Bible and talking about the competitive character of his young teammates. George Wilson was talking about how much the players love one another. Marv Levy was reciting one of his favorite aphorisms about morale being built by victory in battle.

and more ...

"In the past, you would feel that negative energy creeping in," Wire said, "that invader of the mind. Guys wouldn't rise up to the fight. After the game, I talked to Terrence [McGee] and some of the other guys. They said, "Coy, we used to lose games like that.'"

Last week, Wire said the Bills wouldn't be looking ahead to New England. At times Sunday, it seemed that way. But the players insisted it wasn't the case. Jauron said they're not capable of dominating any opponent. They have to find ways to win the close ones. They've done it four times in a row. They're 5-4. So what if their five victims have a combined record of 9-36? They're in the playoff hunt.

"Honestly, going into this game, we thought this was going to be the toughest game of the season," Wire said. "I think we're worthy of winning close ones like this now, because of the character of this team. Guys are putting in the extra work, so in these critical situations we have guys who stand up to the challenge as opposed to withering away."

Wire seems to have blossomed into the team's spokesman as well as moral leader as shown in previous game where he called the players down to field to pray when Bengals' player was hurt while Bengals were just standing around or in one case fooling around.

They played the popular rap tune, "Crank Dat," at the two-minute warning in Dolphin Stadium.

Little did they know they were only helping Buffalo Bills rookie running back Marshawn Lynch get into his "Beast Mode."

The Bills were facing a critical third-and-2 situation at the Miami 38, and Lynch was bobbing his head and grooving to the rhythm as the Bills waited in the huddle.

Then the Bills gave the ball to their workhorse back and he hammered his body over right tackle for the second-best, true-grit, 2-yard run of the day. First down, Buffalo.

Looks like it goes into Buffalo's music selection now.

Miami safety Jason Allen read the run off left tackle. He hit the hole with speed, and the collision was violent. Lynch was knocked backward and then surged forward and over the goal line.

"I'm not certain I've seen a better run than that two-point conversion," Bills coach Dick Jauron said.

FINAL: It was an ugly win, but the Bills deserve one of these. They should have played better and they know it. Hopefully it makes them focus all the more for New England this week.

Even when the Miami Dolphins play keep-away, they lose. Winless Miami controlled the ball for nearly 37 minutes and led most of the game, but Rian Lindell kicked a 34-yard field goal with 46 seconds left and the Buffalo Bills earned their fourth consecutive victory Sunday, 13-10.

Buffalo scored 11 points in the final 9:46 to improve to 5-4. The Bills' winning streak is their longest since 2004.

"I am not sure I've ever seen a better run than that one," Bills coach Dick Jauron said of Lynch's battle to get in the end zone on the conversion. "We aren't dominating teams, but we are finding ways to win games."

With the Dolphins leading, 10-2, Lynch powered his way over the left tackle for the 3-yard score to cap a 10-play, 66-yard drive with just under 10 minutes remaining.

Lynch followed the same path and extended the ball over the goal line on the two-point conversion, tying the game at 10-10.

He injured his left ankle late in the game, and was limping in the locker room. The Bills will know more about his status on Monday, but as he left for treatment without speaking to the media, he said, "I'll be fine."

I think he would have been back in game if needed.

The Dolphins committed no turnovers, allowed Buffalo to convert only two third downs and benefited from a big day by journeyman Jesse Chatman, who rushed for a career-high 124 yards. Still they lost.
