Lt. Col. Kennan Horn, professor of military science at OU, said he was surprised nothing had been done for Kalsu, a ROTC member, before Horn arrived 18 months ago. After learning there was no memorial in Kalsu’s honor, Horn said he and fellow ROTC members decided to take on the project. The lieutenant colonel then contacted the OU Letterman’s Football Association about the idea.

“When people heard about this, they lined up,” Horn said.

“He knew he was taking a big chance of not getting his job back at Buffalo,” his wife said.
