Forked from: Favre joins Marino as only QBs to reach 60,000 yards passing (http://www.billszone.com/fanzone/showpost.php?postid=2197612)

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3105197
Brett Favre joined Dan Marino as the only quarterbacks to throw for 60,000 yards in a career during the second quarter of Green Bay's 34-0 win against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

Favre now trails Marino's all-time mark of 61,361 by 1,105 yards, after throwing for 351 yards and three touchdowns against the Vikings.

Favre, who has started 245 straight games, is having one of his statistically best years. The Packers came into Sunday's game an NFC best 7-1 and have won 11 of their last 12 games, including a six-game road winning streak.

So, in the end, who is the better QB.....Marino or Favre??

You might as well move this to the smack zone now because that is where it will end up

Both have merits honestly. I believe as of this season they both played for 16 seasons or something like that.

Favre has gone to two Superbowls winning one and was named MVP 3 times, astonishingly all in a row. 95, 96, and 97. Hes been in the pro-bowl 8 times, and has basically re-written most all of the significant QB records. Footballs equivalent to Cal Ripken, Favre hasnt missed a game since like 1993 or something.

Marino pretty much set the bar stat wise most QB's are measured by today, its only incredible longevity thats allowed Favre to break most these records. Marino pretty much set every record a QB could. Named MVP once and appeared in one Superbowl which the fins lost to the 49ers. Marino played in 9 pro bowls. Marino while injured often his last years in the NFL was one of the least sacked QB's ever.

Tough to say who is better, I think simply on accomplishments alone Favre but you could make an argument for either.

its a mixed bag..... marino did used to work with pretty much nothing, yeah he may have had mark squared (duper and clayton) but other than that, he was the team.... where as when brett had alot of his success in the mid 90's they had a formidable team...... what he is doing this year is reminiscent of marino in the mid 80's

my opinion its favre only because he's won the big one, and he seems to get better with age...... although injuries may be what will be the deciding factor as favre has played 250+ straight games.... and marino missed a majority of one year for sure with that achilles injury

Gee, wonder what the result will be on a Bills site

hell Favre is a better QB than Kelly and Kosar combined too.

It's not just that it's a Bills site that makes people think Favre is bette. It's because he is better. And Favre will probably play 2-3 more seasons on top of what he's already done.

Favre is the best QB of the past 25 years not named Elway.

The ring is the thing and its why Farve is better he won the big one, Danny boy could not.

How many seasons did Marino play to Farve?

wow thats a hell of a lot closer than I thought it was. Id still say Marino. That Packers Super Bowl was hardly won by Farve.

14 27 246 2 0 | 4 12 1
passing and then rushing

Favre had a lot to do with the Pack winning, despite Desmond Howard winning the SB MVP
And this is Favre's stat line for the SB loss vs the Broncos.

25 42 256 3 1

Marino's stat line for his SB loss

29 50 318 1 2

On the big stage...Favre threw for 502 yards, 5TD and 1 INT and ran for 1 TD. That's much more effective than what Marino did on it.

Favre, and I say he is better than anyone out of the class of '83.

Favre is the better QB, Marino the better passer.

the debate is close, but clear...favre is the better qb. i've heard too many bad things about marino's ego and attitude getting in the way of wins.

not only that, he's still tearing it up, not just padding stats. Pack is 8-1, and Favre leads the league in passing yards

Marino 17 seasons 242 games
Favre 17 seasons 250 games

Considering Farve did not play one season in Atlanta it shows how durable Farve is. Marino did get the head start in endorsements though the year he was out and doing commercials in a cast.

Ask Marino what he'd rather have...four shots at it, or just one.

I would think its more embarasing to lose 4 in a row given that you guys actually had a good team in teh early 90s, and you weren't stuck with crap like Marino was.

I don't think this thread will get anywhere if people keep the ******ed posts up.

The biggest reason Marino never won a SB?

NO RUNNING GAME.

Now is that because the Phins never brought in a good running back? Is it because Dan Marino refused to play "second fiddle" to an excellent running game? Or the coaches for never wanting to have a strong running game?

That's the main debate on why Marino never won the big one and there isn't a factual answer as to why. It's all a matter of a conjecture. Any way you slice it Dan Marino stayed championship-less in the NFL...as well as Jimbo.

Ok no offense but that idea is just stupid, Marino never struck me as an ego manic who put himself above the team.
