Why Dick can't start Trent

It's New England. If he starts Trent and benches JP the reasoning would have to be the JP played in the Miami game, despite a 4th quarter rally.

Trent will be massacured by N.E., and have a Loss. Dick would be forced to start JP or completly lose this team.

So the anti JP crowd relax, as you predict JP will be destroyed Sunday night, then his career will be over in Buffalo, or until Trent gets hurt again.

So lets all focus and talk about something else than the QB's this week.

Let's apply some possible outcomes and see what they bring:

JP starts, plays good, Bills win: If this is the case, then he is our QB for the rest of the season. It would be very hard to argue it, and to be honest, it would put us in a good position. Solid rookie backup with future starting potential and invested starter showing dividends on the biggest stage of his career. Odds of this happening: Doubtful but not impossible.

JP starts, plays poor, Bills win: Even in a poor performance, if we win, he keeps the job. However, he's still on a week to week basis... its been prove3n around here that winning a game is not reason for public support. Odds of this happening: Slim to none.

JP starts, plays well, Bills lose: Same as above... he keeps his job, but nothing is guaranteed. Odds of happening: Not probable, but definitely possible.

JP starts, plays poorly, Bills lose: If this should happen, it will become extremely difficult to justify JP keeping the job. The Trent Edwards Era would begin and many people around here would be happy. Odds of happening: Decent.

Trent starts, plays well, Bills win: JP who? Odds of happening: Slimmer than slim to none (i'd love to see it, but it would be extremely unlikely).

Trent strats, plays well, Bills lose: Full blown QB controversy that puts what we have now (in terms of controversy) to shame. Odds of happening: Unlikely but possible.

Trent starts, plays poorly, Bills win: Hard to deny him the starting nod from here on out if he can beat the Pats... even with a poor performance. Odds of happening: Highly unlikely.

Trent starts, plays poorly, Bills lose: Trent's confidence is beaten, our team is officially fractured, JP all but gives up on Buffalo and our season effectively comes to an end. Odds of happening: Better than even.

This is why starting JP is a must. The downside is minimal, the upside is great, and we have our best chance at a win. With Trent starting, you could see the ushering in of a new era, but you're more likely to see the end of a season... ours.
