There was a surprising amount of support among NFL owners this week to expand the playoffs.
It won't happen for this season, but it could get approved in the next two years.
Too many factions have a stake in seeing more playoff teams. It's good for the owners because they can trumpet their season as a success if they make the postseason. That makes it easier for them to raise ticket prices. It's good for the coaches because making the playoffs helps their job security a bit. It will be good for the television networks, because it will be two more games for which they can sell expensive advertising....more
