I'm surprised it's that low considering the monster deals Kelsay, Schobel, Walker, and Dockery got.

Can you post a link so we can see what factors they used in determining the definition of 'payroll'? The numbers seem skewed.

Having the highest payroll doesn't help either...look at the Panthers.

Funny part is 27-29 on that list are all playoff teams.

And Green Bay is arguably the best NFC team.

(having said that, I disagree with this being why we can't compete. WE sign plenty of players via FA, they're just usually the wrong ones.)

Good riddance Fairchild. Of course, the knowledge of your departure will only make TE more hateable than the typical Bills QB. Good luck, hope we don't mess you up like JP.

Well, let's see how the records settle out at the end of the year.

Drop out the two worst records in the top half, and the two best records in the bottom half (this helps to eliminate statistical anomalies), then see what the money really means.

We might see the same answer, but that would be a more accurate analysis.

Re: We Will Never Be Able To Compete, and this is Why

Since I'm way too lazy to do it myself has anybody protracted this out over a number of years? In other words, what is the trend since salaries and team spending can vary from year to year. I'm just curious to see if we're consistently on the bottom, or if we fluctuate in and out of the higher tiers. Big contract years and fluctuations in player salary scales has to affect these numbers in a big way. Any insight into the salary aspect of this Clump?

I didn't mean to thank you and I didn't mean to groan you. I meant to reply with quote.

Anyway, what you said has some truth to it, and a high payroll doesn't ensure success, nor does a low payroll ensure failure. However, statistically speaking, there is a positive correlation between the two.

To address your second point, you can't just sign free agents, even they're ok ones, hoping they'll gel. Once in a while you HAVE TO sign a high priced free agent. Then you build the team around that guy.

Tom Brady = high priced (not that he was a FA)
                      Randy Moss = high priced.

Tom and Randy = prolific = success.

We don't have a single guy who's high priced, ie a BIG TIME money player.

Well I guess we should be in last and we are not.

I would like to see the salaries of the Coaches/Executives.

I'll bet they're dead last too.

                          With the exception of Pittsburgh.
