Bennett to have surgery on his left foot

NFL.com wire reports

MINNEAPOLIS (March 27, 2003) -- Minnesota Vikings running back Michael Bennett will have surgery on his broken left foot and is expected to be sidelined six weeks.

Bennett felt discomfort while working out at the Vikings' practice facility on March 25, coach Mike Tice said in a statement released by the team. Bennett was diagnosed with a fracture, and is expected to make a full recovery following surgery and rehabilitation.

A message left with Bennett's agent, Patrick Dye, was not immediately returned.

Last season, Bennett became the first Vikings running back to play in the Pro Bowl since Robert Smith in 1998.

Bennett rushed for five touchdowns and 1,296 yards last season, his second in the NFL after being drafted by the Vikings in the first round out of Wisconsin in 2001. He tied for third on the team with 37 receptions and ranked third in the NFC in yards rushing.
