March 28, 2003) -- The main event of the Pro Day workouts this week was at Arizona State, where defensive end Terrell Suggs, probably the only player capable of passing Carson Palmer as the top pick in this draft, was performing.

The workout produced more doubt than conviction, but while he was working out at Arizona State, Boston College held its Pro Day. About 20 scouts and coaches showed up. With all the head coaches and general managers in Phoenix for the owners meeting, area scouts and position coaches flew into Boston. There were 15 young men demonstrating their skills for the NFL people, and there were a few developments worth mentioning.

Boston College quarterback Brian St. Pierre worked out well and demonstrated good athletic ability while doing his individual work with the BC receivers for Terry Robiskie of the Browns. One scout called him "a very interesting prospect" flying under the radar screen. He might be the second-day pick who creates a big splash when he finally plays. Two of his teammates told me he is an excellent leader, and better than the quarterbacks the Eagles faced this season. From the reports I got, he's worth keeping a close eye on.
