The Buffalo Bills have a 5-5 record but they're still a below-average NFL football team in just about everything except special teams and enthusiasm.
The Bills rank 31st in the 32-team NFL in both offense and defense and last in sacks. They've been outgained 5.7 to 4.8 yards per play. They appear to be no closer to deciding who the No. 1 quarterback is than when this season began.
One huge step for the young Bills would be beating a good team on the road. That hasn't happened in the last two years, unless you think the New York Jets were a genuinely good team last season.
The Bills get another chance Sunday in Jacksonville against a good team (7-3 record) that is battling Indianapolis for the lead in the AFC South.
The Jaguars will miss at least two defensive mainstays: Tackle Marcus Stroud is serving a league suspension, and middle linebacker and leading tackler Mike Peterson has a broken hand. Cornerback Rashean Mathis has a strained groin.
