One advantage the Patriots probably won't have over Buffalo is playing the Bills coming off a bye week. Reader Joe Damico, a native of Rochester now living in Atlanta, advised me that New England has come off its bye week and played Buffalo in each of the last four seasons.

It is tough enough to beat the Patriots without giving them an extra week to rest, heal injuries and have Bill Belichick prepare a game plan.

Here are the results of the game immediately following New England's bye the last four seasons:

2004 — Won 31-17 at Buffalo.

2005 — Won 21-16 at home over Buffalo.

2006 — Won 28-6 at Buffalo.

2007 — Won 56-10 at Buffalo.

When I advised Bills general manager Marv Levy about this apparent unfair advantage to the Patriots, he was not aware of the situation and said he'd contact the NFL office to make sure it doesn't happen again.

yes...but again, it is ludicrious to think that this has happened by chance.

Oh I agree but honestly I dont care if we played New England after they had played 10 weeks in a row, I still would bet on NE at this point.

personally? let's play one game against them in nov and the other in dec every year...in fact I would say that all 6 division games should take place after Oct. 15 every year.

Maybe he should also be aware that we AVERAGE playing three teams coming off their bye every year...

This year it was irrelevant. The two teams are too far apart for it to matter. But it is an issue, and Marv should speak to the league about it. I too find it a bit hard to believe Levy was unaware of it.

I'll take neutral ref's not paid by the league first, then worry about the bye week.

Because Marv is not a GM and is only a figurehead.

Good point. We played the Dolphins coming off their bye, plus one other team. :ill:

I'd guess Marv's comment was taken out of context by the writer.

As far as any 'conspiracy' regarding NE and their bye-week I would think if the schedule-makers truly were playing favorites and thought the bye-week could make that big of a difference they'd schedule a different opponent than Buffalo. Like Indy, or Dallas...
