View Full Version : I remember when Jimbo was the QB, unquestionably the QB

I love having a gamer behind center week in and week out. You are always going to lose some games, odd as it may seem but with Jim Kelly behind center, you knew we had a chance to win every game.

I miss those days and hope we can get our stuff straight sooner than later with a real go to guy at QB, someone we can count on.

I don't fully trust Trent yet but I trust Losman even less.

You must also remember then, even way back when, there was a faction of fans that thought Reich should've been elevated to starter over Kelly.

Half the people here would be calling for Reich if this were the early '90's. Shiny Object Syndrome is a staple of this place.

phallic object syndrome is a staple for some here as well.

That happens with any team in any league in any sport. When things start to look bad or don't quite the way you think they should, the grass always starts looking greener on the other side

Marv has to correct this situation. Go and sign a hot QB in free agency.

I know I was thinking this too.
Remember when we had a DE who could rush the passer?
Remember when we had LB who could really change a game?
Remember reed and thomas ans tasker?
We were very lucky to have all of that talent on one team.

That wont happen again untill we have a consistent coaching staff and not 2-4 years and out coaching staff. We need a Solid long lasting coaching staff. And one that wont juggle back and forth and stick with 1 QB.

I know JP sucks but he was doomed from the beginning. Prior coaching staffs screwed him and this one came too late for him. Now ship JP out and see what Edwards has. If he doesnt have it then find someone this offseason.

it is kind of funny though.. because todays numbers are so skewed.. jimbo, by my recollection, was a gun slinger.. the man.. lighting up the scoreboard with all those great teams.. but then i looked at his numbers...

33 tds one season when we went to the superbowl.. the rest of the years look so average now in comparison to what we are seeing.. i mean derrick anderson is going to surpass the best season kelly ever had..

pretty weird.

it is a very different nfl than 20 years ago.

you see games where very few balls hit the ground on a regular basis.

it is a qb league ever since walsh brought in his WCO, and most teams include a good bit of it now.

That's why stats don't ever tell the whole story. Kelly was a winner. I don't think Ben Rothlinsberger is going to have awesome numbers either but I suspect that he will win another Superbowl at somepoint in his career.

Kelly was as good as his OL. Get an OL that can runblock

very true.. as the oline lost quality players.. kelly's numbers suffered greatly and lead to his retirement.

it also didn't matter whether it was Kelly or Riech. They both played lights out because of the OL. The OL made Thurman a weapon and not a stupid workhorse or TOP rb which Lynch has become because of our stupid coaches.

Who the hell is Fargas and why is this white dude outrunning Lynch in terms of ypc.? Who is Kolby Smith from KC and how the hell did he run for 2 TDs 130 yds in his first start? Did we draft the wrong rb? NO, we have an idiot who deson't know how to run .

THe longer we play with Fairchild calling the shots, the more I'm starting to miss Mularkey.

Those were great teams we had in the late 80's/early 90's - HOF QB, RB, WR, DE, coach, great oline and a boatload of serviceable role players. We were a very loaded team from top to bottom.

So sad how far this franchise has truly fallen 10 years later.....
