We can only hope...

Re: New head gear coming to the NFL, just in time....
It's a good idea, and maybe it will help.
But, quite honestly, until the league starts cracking down on the lack of mouthpieces and unbuckled chin straps there will always be unnecessary concussions.
Also, helmets have actually been the cause of many more injuries than people realize because players play with much more reckless-abandon when they are wearing them.
Believe it or not, I know several sports medicine doctors who believe NFL players would be safer wearing a soft pad on their heads (kind of like the old leather helmets, but an actual pad) instead of the actual full hemets and facemasks they wear today. It would cause players to not use their heads when making contact (which is the bigger issue). Kind of odd to think about, but maybe they're right?!Buffalo Bills Now! and NFL Now! podcasts

Re: New head gear coming to the NFL, just in time....
some zoners should be wearing one of these full time.I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?"
"Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet.
You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
