    PFW Week 13 tidbits

Redskins can’t overcome Gibbs’ costly mistakes

The Redskins chose to get overly conservative on their second-to-last drive, with a golden opportunity to run out the clock with a 16-14 advantage. RB Clinton Portis got the call up the middle on five of six plays against a Buffalo defense that was stacking eight or nine men within a few yards of the line of scrimmage. After Portis was stopped for a four-yard gain on 3rd-and-8, a punt ensued, and the Redskins then allowed Bills rookie QB Trent Edwards to complete three consecutive passes for 45 yards in 48 seconds to get Lindell in place for Gibbs’ inopportune mental lapse. The fourth straight loss was a critical blow to the Redskins’ playoff chances, leaving them at 5-7.
