All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
Royal seems to make key mistakes at the worst times, as if he loses focus. The fumble yesterday was pathetic, and he cost us a game last year with that giant step over the end line, when all he had to do was take a normal step to keep his foot inbounds.
I think he would be a good backup, but he is somewhat lacking as a starter.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

he also got a holding penalty and it was hard to see on TV, but in the stadium you could tell that he gave up on a pass in the first half- he never finished his route or made a play on the ball. I'm really sick of Royal.
As far as Gaines: he has some receiving ability but is also prone to mistakes, but he's really no worse than Royal and a lot cheaper.
He appears to be a great blocker but for some reason loses focus when he gets the ball (he did catch it 4 times). I do like Gaines but we need another TE.

That's been Royal's MO his entire career.
Also Gaines is essentially the same player, and comes a lot cheaper. We definitely need a pass catcher though and would love to see us sign LJ Smith from Philly this offseason.
Gaines has been a hell of a FA pick up. Royal has no athletic ability what so ever.
I remember that one fateful day when Coach took me aside. I knew what was coming. "You don't have to tell me," I said. "I'm off the team, aren't I?" "Well," said Coach, "you never were really ON the team. You made that uniform you're wearing out of rags and towels, and your helmet is a toy space helmet. You show up at practice and then either steal the ball and make us chase you to get it back, or you try to tackle people at inappropriate times."
It was all true what he was saying. And yet, I thought something is brewing inside the head of this Coach.
He sees something in me, some kind of raw talent that he can mold. But that's when I felt the handcuffs go on.
The problem is that Royal was a #2 TE in Washington and for us he is playing as a #1. Its the same problem we have with Reed and Parrish. Royal would be a much better player feeding off of a top tier TE that can draw coverage. That way he could have an easier time blocking due to the attention our #1 TE would get and he could also have more receiving opportunites dealing with less coverage.

No thanks on LJ. Always injured and not that great to begin with. Im rooting for Jacob Tamme from Kentucky in Rd 2. If we get this kid it would be a successful draft no matter what happens with the rest of the picks.
Royal has made some clutch catches for us in the past.
He's also singlehandedly lost at least two games for us and put us in bad positions in several more. For every "clutch" play he makes, he makes at least 2 bonehead plays. There were at least two games last year when he had more penalty yards than receiving yards and he's made more than his share of mistakes this year as well.
This is the whole problem with Bills fans: this guy has been consistently mediocre since we inked him and had a key drop, a fumble and a penalty yesterday and yet people are still defending him.
gaines was the 31st pick of the 7th round, 3 years ago. Not bad that he plays exactly the same as royal....
Royal ahs been given two years to elevate his game and be worthy of the check. it hasn't happened. I think the staff knows that royal is as good as done when the offseason starts.
