    Royal game and reception

Jimmy and the gang were at the game last Sunday, three buses full.

After the game Mamma Royal excused herself to speak to her son in the stadium. A half hour later she came out WITH Robert Royal who signed autographs for fans there at tailgate.

This week Jimmy was wearing a new Royal jersey signed by a Royal twice - once by Robert and once by Mamma. Perfect game for him to wear it.

Very cool! Robert Royal is a decent player and gets a lot of **** by us. Some of it is deserved. But he is a really cool guy and very friendly. He was very popular in camp and signing autographs a lot, plus chatted with the fans. That's a nice gesture by him. What a class act.

he completely blew it against the Skins. He was amazing against the Dolphins.

But that's been Royal's problem his hole time here. For every great thing he does, he makes an equally bad mistake.

He's got consistency issues but he's not as bad as you make him out to be.

          yeah, he is.

When we brought Royal here we were trying to break in JP. Now we're trying to break in Trent. We need a consistent receiving threat at TE and Royal has never been that. He doesn't keep his head in games and is prone to big mistakes- until he can be more consistent, then he's not the right guy for this team.

there wasn't a consistent player on this team ever since Royals was here except for Moorman. Our Te's are getting better because our OL is getting better. The TE's no longer have to help block for the likes of Pennington. They can concentrate on geting open like they did yesterday. I see them improving as the Ol improves.

I think your being too harsh here. Trent will break Royal in and you can see the coaches getting him involved more, which is great. Open the play book and run all the plays.

You know what, this thread is about a very nice gesture by Royal and his mother.
Let's not detract from that by bashing the guy's performance.
He had a great game yesterday.

Oh yeah? Royal had a drop yesterday. He had the fumble against Washington. He didn't get his feet in bounds on a TD that would have won the game for us last year. There was a game last year where he had 0 receptions, two drops and 10 penalty yards. There are other examples too but those are the ones that come to me off the top of my head.

Royal doesn't keep his head in the game. He's shown that time and time again.

and let's not let one great game make us forget about 1 3/4 seasons of mediocre to awful games.

I think he is a great locker room guy. Also, I think he is a perfect #2 TE in 2 TE sets which we use often. He can make plays as a receiver but he cant be depended on consistently or as a play maker. Throw a Shockey type guy into the offense and Royal would be a great role player.

That's what he was in Washington, as let's not forget he backed up Cris Cooley. Though Royal is the type of guy Marv seems to pursue in free agency ie a backup who might become a strong starter with more playing time. See Larry Tripplett as another example. Which means if going to get an UFA WR in free agency prepare to see Bryant Johnson.
