All: The new Billszone site with the updated software is scheduled to be turned on Tuesday, May 21, 2024. The company that built it, Dynascale, estimates a FOUR HOUR shut down, from 8pm Pacific, (5pm Eastern) while they get it up and running. Nobody will be able to post in any forum until they are done. Afterwards, you may need to do a web search for the site, as old links will not work, because the site is getting a new IP address. Please be patient. If there are bugs, we will tackle them one at a time. Remember the goal is to be up and running with no glitches by camp. Doing this now assures us of that, because it gives us all summer to get our ducks in a row. Thank you!
Please use this thread to report any issues you come across

Turk Schonert.....3 coordinators in four year with a young team..It would provide the team with some stability.. Van pelt would take the qb job ..Schonert has never been a coordinator....but he's coached for a long time....His relationship with Edwards is a plus.......All those big name guys are not coming to Buffalo...
He probably should get a look at because of his time with the team, plus a new OC will want to bring in a few coaches of his own and as you say he would keep stability at One Bills Drive. I just don't know if he is the guy to take them to the next level. Him never being an OC or ever being up for consideration (as far as I know) has me a little leary.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, I don't repeat myself.

He'd be a smart choice, hopefully they then keep AVP to be a QB coach, as to me one of the biggest mistakes that's made by teams is not having a dedicated QB coach. Yet of all the names thrown out there for OC, my favorite be Trent's former Stanford HC Walt Harris.
I'm not sure what you mean by not having a dedicated QB coach.
Some teams don't carry a dedicated QB coach ie they make their OC an OC/QB coach. To me they should be two seperate positions by two seperate guys ie a dedicated position coach not a combo coach.

I think the Bills have always been a team that has had 2 separate coaches for each. Maybe Gilbride did both, can't say for sure. But I think DJ's stay will cont. with a coach for each.

I think AVP is certainly bright enough to do it, but I think in view of Schonert's greater experience with coaching, he is the more logical choice. I really think that the more continuity we can keep with this team at this point the better.
I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.
I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.
But since that probably isn't possible, my vote goes to Alex Van Pelt.
This is the ultimate in Homerism. Just because he was a great QB does not mean he knows how to coach. Yet we should just hand him the keys to our offense? Makes no sense at all.

"Colorado State was pleased with its hiring of Bills offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild Wednesday, but that will have major consequences on the Bills in 2008. Once Fairchild leaves after the season, it would mark the sixth time in nine years the Bills have made a change at offensive coordinator. The constant change of head coaches and offensive coordinators has dragged down the Bills' offense. The good news for the Bills is Dick Jauron has stabilized the entire coaching situation and is building things in Buffalo. The simple move could come within the staff. Turk Schonert is the Bills quarterback coach and is probably ready to step into the offensive coordinator role. Plus, he has a good relationship with rookie quarterback Trent Edwards. Alex Van Pelt, a former Bills backup, is learning to be a coach and could easily step into the quarterback coaching job. That would keep some much needed continuity."

For one stud, the Jim Kelly thing was meant to be a joke since its been floating around for a couple days now. Alex Van Pelt is a viable candidate to take the position. Go pick on someone else.
And besides, even if Jim Kelly was "handed the keys to our offense", could he do much worse than what are currently experiencing?
