the return of the mighty kane
In a morning skate unlike any ever held by a visiting team in HSBC Arena, more than 1,000 red-clad fans were on hand today as South Buffalo's Patrick Kane and his Chicago Blackhawks teammates had their pregame workout in advance of tonight's game with the Buffalo Sabres.
Fans are not normally allowed to watch the visiting teams skate but the Sabres and Hawks made an exception for the first trip home of Kane, the NHL's No. 1 draft pick.
When it was time to take the ice, Kane led his team off the bench -- and the rest of his teammates never moved. The crowd roared and his teammates howled as he realized he was the only one on the ice and sheepishly waved his hand to acknowledge the fans.
