This season was a handful of plays from being something special and we choked when it counted the most: Denver, Dallas, Cleveland, Jacksonville. Pride is the last thing we should be feeling.

if a .500 record with no playoffs is an accomplishment and something to be proud of, we're truly defeatists because we're holding this team to an embarrassingly low standard.

Fans should want the team to WIN- we shouldn't be proud of mediocrity.

dude, we were one injury away from lining you up at cornerback.
we over achieved and 90% of the board feels that way.

Well, 90% of the board has accepted mediocrity for this team.

The goal is to win games, make the playoffs and win the Super Bowl. Granted, only one team wins the SB every year so that's not a reasonable expectation, but this team has been rebuilding for so long that it's not unreasonable to expect wins at this point.

We sit here and blame youth and injuries and coaching/FO turnover to say "we overachieved in spite of x, y and z" but we still ridiculously underachieved when it comes to the overall goal.

Enough excuses. Get the job done. Hold this team to the same standard that we hold other teams. If NE was 7-7 after the season they had last year, we'd be laughing at their asses regardless of injuries or anything else. But when we're 7-7 we spin it as an overachievement? That's just ridiculous.

Yesterday we got SHUT OUT in the biggest game since at least 2004, and today you're talking about overachieving. This team failed to show up at the most crucial moments this season, and it's extremely frustrating that all we've managed to do is beat up on weak teams only to fail when it means the most. And to add insult to injury, so-called "fans" are talking about how good this season was when we just had yet another miserable failure. It defies logic.

so OP when are you gonna try out for the team and make them so much better??? we as fans can only do so much.... but the biggest thing we can do is SUPPORT the team! we are just a couple of plays and a few key injuries away from being a playoff team. am I tired of missing the playoffs and saying "well theirs always next year"? ofcourse I am, I think we all are.... but I guess some people just don't understand that.

Can you stop saying we accept mediocrity?

That is stupid and you are smarter than that. It makes you sound like a jackass.

There is a big difference between accepting improvement and overachieving than accepting mediocrity.

What exactly does it mean to "support" the team? I watch every second of every Bills game even though I have to pay a fortune to DirecTV for Sunday Ticket. I went to two games this year- one home game even though I live 450 miles away (give or take). My whole basement is decked out with Bills merch and I have tons of Bills clothing.

I think the problem is this: this team has underachieved for years. We can have this debate all day about whether or not we "overachieved for the conditions" this season, but at the end of the day we're out of the playoffs and 7 games behind the division leader. SEVEN GAMES in a 16 game season. There's a reason for that. Certain players and coaches aren't performing at a high level- they're either not putting in the effort or they're not good enough. Defending those players isn't "supporting the team". Many people here don't seem to understand that. "Supporting the team" doesn't mean supporting every player or coach associated with the team- it means supporting whatever will help the team win and criticizing anyone who is contributing to losses.

we're 7-7. We didn't beat a single winning team all season. We choked in our 3 biggest games- Dallas, Cleveland and the night game against NE. We're out of the playoffs. And we're 7 games behind the division leader.

But we somehow "overachieved"? That means we're holding this team to a very low standard. We're not holding them to overall wins and losses or making the playoffs. Simply getting to .500 is considered an accomplishment now? We're supposed to be "proud" of that?

That's why I'm saying that some of you are accepting mediocrity. We're middle of the pack at best and people are using terms like "proud" and "overachieved."

Why can't we hold this team to real NFL standards? Wins and losses, upsets, wins over good teams, making the playoffs? No, we can't do that. We have to flirt with .500 then talk about how it was an accomplishment just to get there. How is that NOT accepting mediocrity?

See this is the problem, when you post here at billszone here are the expectations:

if the Bills LOSE: It's time to blast everyone on the franchise, slam the QB and anyone who supports him, and basically dwell on horrible this franchise is

if the Bills WIN: It's time to blast everyone on the franchise, slam the QB and anyone who supports him, and basically dwell on how horrible this franchise is

As a side note, if you are even remotely positive and find something to be excited about then you are accepting mediocrity and aren't a true fan

You hit the nail on the head. Basically if you aren't depressed and complaining you aren't a fan. Some people need to just find the positive in something to stay sane.

all I'm saying with regards to "supporting" the team is, yes you can critisize the team, players and coaches.... but the way you do it, I feel, is a bit overboard.... even in a win you complain about everything. in a loss it's even worse. now I'm not saying that there are no players or coaches on this team that deserve to be defended or critisized but it seems like no matter what happens on sunday in your words everyone sucks they should all be cut and the whole coaching staff fired.

I'm glad that Fairchild is leaving, I think he has hurt the offense this year... I don't think that either QB has has much free reign of the O which has hurt both of them. the play calling has been horrific this year and I'm suprised that we have as many wins as we do.

all I would like to see, and I'm sure many others as well, is for you and a few others to give credit where credit is due.... stop complaining all the time and let us be happy with the season that we are having concidering everything that we've had to go through. GO BILLS!!!

Exactly, I'm not saying we don't have some problems that need to be addressed. We certainly have some work to do in the off-season. However, IMO, we have been through a LOT this season. It all started in Week 1 when #85 was loaded into an ambulance, then we lost Poz, then JP went down and so began the "Buffalo Bills Quarterback Shuffle", plus all the countless injuries that I have not mentioned. Add all that up and to come to Cleveland with a sniff of the playoffs is pretty impressive to me. Should we have won the game yesterday, yeah probably, but like it or not we are a young team. Trent is going to make mistakes, dumb mistakes. Thats the life of a NFL quarterback.

In the end, I am proud of this football team and what they have done this season. They have overcome a lot and exceeded expectations. Just think this is what we did with a ton of injuries, get our starters healthy and think about what this team should do! Go Bills!

You're going to get put in a time out for personally attacking somebody. Oh wait, you know the children that run this board. You can get away with it. Too bad the mods can publicly reprimand those of us that slip up at times and cross the line but then those mods do the same things in our user cp.

Sometime you just have to call a spade a spade no matter what the consequence is.

So OP i'm guessing Ralph and Marv have already drawn up the contract for you to be the next OC?

I mean since your a football genius and you would have this team scorin 75 points a game and winning every game.

Get a grip your *****ing is old and outdated. We get it you hate the bills. We get it you can play madden really well so that makes you a great GM. We get it your a football god.

I mean seriously dude why do you even say your a bills fan? You were screaming and whining all preseason about how this team would be lucky to win 2 or 3 games. But oh you can't be happy with 7 or 8 or possibly 9 wins. No you want to win the super bowl every year and if the team doesn't you say fire everyone the team sucks cut all the players. I bet your a Yankees fan.

So why don't you just go and hop on the Pats bandwagon and do us all a favor. This all of you have accepted mediocorcy crap is lame. Look at how excited the fins fan were yesterday. Look at how happy thier fans were to win thier first game. Have they accepted mediocrocy? Oh but wait i'm a homer and if i'm not bashing the bills i'm not a true fan. A true fan says my team sucks. You act like your the only one that wants this team to win. We all know the playoff drought. We all know times in bills football have been better. Some of us are enjoying the ride this year. So many people said the bills will be picking first in the draft next year.

Seriously you need to get a grip it get's old.

You don't get it. I don't hate the Bills. I hate LOSING and that's what's getting old. If I hated the Bills, I wouldn't be constantly pissed that they suck. I don't know why you can't understand that, but you clearly demonstrate comprehension problems, so maybe that should be expected.

why should we be happy with 7 or 8 or 9 wins if it doesn't get us in the playoffs? Big deal- it exceeded what I thought, but what I think is not the measure of success. Wins and making the playoffs are.

A true fan doesn't talk about how great 7-7 is. A true fan isn't "proud" of a team that can't beat any winning teams. A true fan doesn't call an 8th straight year of missing the playoffs "overachieving". A true fan wants the team to win and expects results.

As far as my complaining being outdated- we got eliminated from the playoffs YESTERDAY. We lost to another winning team YESTERDAY. All of the people who said they were proud and that we overachieved said it TODAY AND YESTERDAY. Why don't you tell them that it's getting old? Why don't you tell them that we all know about the injuries and that we all know how low the expectations for this team were? Oh, wait, you don't get sick of reading the stuff you agree with. You like the rosy picture and don't want to acknowledge the problems the team has.

Well, sorry to bring you into the real world.

The biggest problem with the world today is the expectation of instant gratification.

When did 8 years become instant?? Come on, it's been 43 years since this city has won anything that can be considered a major sports title, and even that is disputed.

I agree.

On the other hand, Ralph Wilson was happy we won 7 games this year. WTF?

OP. We made a playoff run with 3/4 of our team on IR, and even some of their backups on IR, a QB circus, and a devastating injury in the first game of the year. Sure maybe we didnt make the playoffs again. But you didnt even give this team a chance to even be mediocore. You could even say they overachieved in a way. Maybe you should just shut it for once. We know we arent good, but it could have been a lot worse of a season.

So (. . .) i'm guessing Ralph and Marv have already drawn up the contract for you to be the next OC?

They'd never hire me on their own merit, but I suppose a coup de "team" is possible...

so OP when are you gonna try out for the team and make them so much better??? we as fans can only do so much

Im trying out for the Bills this offseason but not as a player

I'm proud of what the team has done partularly the D and ST unit. Doesn't mean I'm satisfied with the outcome of the season.

seems me me that the two are mutually exclusive- how can you be proud if you're unsatisfied with the outcome?

no they aren't. It's like when your kid joins a contest, he may not have won the whole thing but you're proud of him/her anyways. Proud of all the effort he/she put into it against the odds. a 5th grader getting beat by a 8th grader.

well, that's fine for kids in elementary school.

But in the National Football League, they don't give ribbons for effort so the players don't get their feelings hurt.

we got shut out in the biggest game in 4 years and we're out of the playoffs. Again. Even if the team is improving, we now have to wait 9 1/2 months for a meaningful football game.

The people who see the glass as half full are ignoring reality.

I just posted a statement of irrefutable facts- no opinions- and you accuse me of ignoring reality? Give me a break- you're just arguing for the sake of arguing and you don't even have anything meaningful to say.

Your fact is we got shut out am I correct? Is that the irrefutable evidence in question? lol

Totally disregard the circumstances of the game and just portray the team as a bunch of lack luster no name heartless people that don't give 110%.

Sorry but your posts as of late have taken on the apperance of a bitter person in general. You fail to take any good this team has accomplished and blatenly disregard FACTS that do not lead to the conclusion we just outright suck and the players/coaches just blow.

Ask around.

If you're a fan as you claim to be, how can you NOT be bitter about this team's decade of failure?

**** circumstances. Getting shut out is NEVER acceptable, and it's even less acceptable to do it in a game with such heavy playoff implications. There were at least 4 games caught in the same weather mess we were in, and none of those other 7 teams got shut out.

How can a fan say "We got shut out? Oh well, look at the circumstances." That's just ridiculous.

Facts that we don't outright suck? What results have those facts brought us? We still didn't beat any winning teams. We're still not in the playoffs. We're still just a mediocre team that barely beats bad teams and lays down against good teams. That's what our record shows.

Again you take a comment and blow it up into now
"I am a so called fan"
"I accept a crappy product" and for kicks
"Everyone else is did something different hundreds of miles away from the stadium we played in"

Reminds me of that commerical where the guy flips out because some other guy questioned his fan hood infront of the ladies. You win bro, you win.

the team that beat us wasn't hundreds of miles away- they were in the EXACT SAME STADIUM.

And btw, look at a weather map sometime. Believe it or not, storm systems do stretch hundreds of miles.

I am on vacation and usually travel or have a very busy schedule. But with the kids still in school and all the house work done, just finished redoing a house for over a year I have some free time.

I enjoy posting and love this particular board and personalities that frequent it. I lurk a few times a week even without posting as I hate people that just throw down their view and never follow it up, so I do not do it. May not agree with all view points but atleast everyone has a forum where they can get it off their chest.

This sunday at the game i will make a big sign that says FIRE EVERYONE AND CUT EVERYONE CAUSE THIS TEAM SUCKS.

Sure i might get my ass kicked by the other fans there. But what do they know thier not true fans. They don't see the light. They have all accepted mediocracy. They are just a bunch of homers that do not know what reality is.

LOL

Man, I've been here for 3 years and every year is the same here. It's a broken record of people on one side accepting the mediocrity and the failures, and on the other, people sick and tired of all the straight seasons of failures.

You know...I swear if our team ever makes it another 30 years, people are STILL going to be hanging their hats on the early 90s because since then, we've had nothing to hang out hat on. And even hanging our hats on losing 4 Super Bowls doesn't make you feel that proud when we lost and we haven't been even close being a winning team, let alone winning playoff team.

Really reflects the franchise.

You forgot the middle of the road people who hate losing and want a winning team but are not dwelling on the past. They are excited about the future since Marv & Co. took over and can see the improvements being made via draft/FA.

The future is brighter then it has been in a along time.
