According to PFW: Schonert a long shot

    Dec. 28, 2007

With Bills offensive coordinator Steve Fairchild leaving Buffalo to assume the head-coaching job at Colorado State, it didn’t long for a potential replacement to lobby for the vacancy. Bills QB coach Turk Schonert publicly proclaimed his desire for the job earlier this week. While head coach Dick Jauron reacted favorably to Schonert’s comments, saying that he sees the ambition of his assistants as being a good thing, we hear that Schonert should be considered a long shot to land the job. Schonert has been an NFL QB coach on and off since 1992 without ever serving as a coordinator, and his kinship with the oft-criticized Fairchild would make him an unpopular choice around Buffalo. However, sources caution not to completely write him off. If anyone currently on the staff has a chance at the job, it’s Schonert. He’s well-liked throughout the clubhouse and has developed a particularly close relationship with rookie QB, and fellow Stanford alum, Trent Edwards.

they make it seem its a bit like saying Bobby April was a head coach candidate a few years back.

If Schonert doesn't get the job here, he just might follow Fairchild to Colorado.

I agree with Yardrat, I think Turk is as good as gone if he doesn't get the OC job.

I have now officially written off Schonert, because PFW has such incredible credibility.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?

As far as I'm concerned let him go. Look at our QB's development since he's been there coach. I don't think we are losing much!

I also agree with Yardrat. And I don't really like the inference of the PFW article that the reason Schonert is a long shot is Fairchild's recent unpopularity with fans. If there is one thing that has been proven over the years, it is that to run a franchise based on fan opinion is a really bad idea. Besides, Schonert is only an unpopular idea with some fans. I don't even know if it is a majority. Some of us don't draw the conclusion that Fairchild had a bad system just because Fairchild himself got overly conservative and predictable in his play calling at times.

I've made up my mind. Don't confuse me with the facts.

I'm the most reasonable poster here. If you don't agree, I'll be forced to have a hissy fit.

Ok then I hope they give Ken Zampese a ring. The guy who helped develop carson palmer and made john kitna have a career year in cincy. He's familar with the system after his time in st.louis.

Dick would know if Turk is an X and O guy or simply a players coach. Players coaches can coach players fundamentals, basics, reads etc. but doesn't mean they can handle an entire unit . Just like some OC/DC are only good coordinaotrs but not meant to be headcoaches.
