My apologies if this has already been posted as I've been absent from the site intermittently.

Anyway the short article dicusses an idea submitted by Senator Antoine Thompson and a resolution submitted by Councilmember Brian Davis.

The article:
http://www.buffaloideas.com/buffaloideas/2007/11/a-football-stad.html

Below, the Davis memo connected with the article. Check out the 1st "Whereas":

Resolution
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p> </o:p>
By: Mr. Davis
<o:p> </o:p>
Re: Building A New Football Stadium in Downtown <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Buffalo</st1:place></st1:City><o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Whereas: Recently former Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly who is seeking to form an investors group to purchase the Buffalo Bills raised the idea of building a stadium in downtown Buffalo; and<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Whereas: The Perry Projects bounded by South Park Avenue, Chicago, Scott and Hamburg Streets would be an ideal location for an NFL stadium given its proximity to downtown, the Outer Harbor, State Thruway and a proposed casino; and<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Whereas: The Perry Projects are an aging facility in which many structures have already been removed; and<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Whereas: Any effort to build a stadium at the Perry Projects location will require ensuring that current tenants have input in their relocation to new living quarters; and<o:p></o:p>
<o:p> </o:p>
Now Therefore Be It Resolved

<o:p> </o:p>
That the Buffalo Common Council is interested in starting a dialogue on the idea of building an NFL stadium at the Perry Projects location.
<o:p> </o:p>
Be It Further Resolved

<o:p> </o:p>
That a copy of this Resolution be forwarded to the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority, the Perry Projects Tenant Council, the Mayor of the City of Buffalo, Ralph Wilson and Jim Kelly to obtain their comments and feedback.
<o:p> </o:p>

An article about Perry Projects was posted a couple a weeks ago. I think it was in the Buffalo Zone.

This would be a dream come true. With that said, I am not going to get my hopes up.

Right? The Atlanta Dome sucks ass.

Of course the Dome is surrounded by buildings and major roads on 3 sides. There literally is no specified parking other than 1 or two small lots. There is alot of tailgating done in the "Gulch", but the Gulch is a **** hole parking lot that's usually enveloped in thugs.

I'd LOVE to see a stadium built there! Then I could take anyone who wants to see where I grew up to the stadium (it would be even cooler if I could find out what part of the stadium would be sitting on the spot where the building I grew up in used to be!).

If they put the stadium there, though, they really should clear the area all the way to the waterfront and improve that area to better show off the natural assets of the lakefront. If you build a stadium there, but don't clear out the grain elevators, etc., you will just have a stadium sitting in the middle of a depressed, semi-deserted area when you are done--not exactly the kind of area that people will look forward to going to, especially at night, for games and other events that could be held in a domed stadium in the off-season.

Have any one you deep thinkers ever been down there in the November-January months ? Ice cold, driving winds with the water right next to you. Where would anyone park ? Who would WANT to park down there ?

Tailgating would go the way of the Dodo. I think this is all happy talk without any substance.

Great post! After going to the Browns game in Cleveland this year, I am even more opposed to a downtown stadium than I first was. I'd rather just hold onto the Ralph until its ready, then build a new one right near it or maybe in Batavia or somewhere else where there is a ton of space....

heck they could put the stadium in wheatfield next to the indian reservation. tons of space, closer for the canucks, about the same for the rochers

The stadium should be built on the old Bethlehem Steel site. Nothing else can be done with that contaminated land anyhow.

They've started a new power source company with windmills on that site.

Only a very small portion of that site is leased and they would be willing to sell but no buyer would want to have to attempt to clean up that site. We are talking about a Superfund-type cleanup.

Hey or they could just move the team to Toronto. What the hell is wrong with you people? Orchard Park is already far away enough from Buffalo. Batavia? Wheatfield? Good god...
