View Full Version : Spikes on thin ice in Philly?

Defense: For the first time in quite a few years, linebacker is not an area of need for Philadelphia. That is, provided the Eagles swallow the huge $5 million base salary due Takeo Spikes in 2008.

That's an astronomical number to pay any linebacker, let alone one coming off yet another injury and a season without either an interception or a sack. Add in the very promising play of rookie Stewart Bradley and Spikes' situation is tenuous.

He's a terrific locker room presence, but given the team's callous treatment of Jeremiah Trotter last season, it's impossible to expect them to keep Spikes around for sentimental reasons, especially for that kind of money.

Look for them to restructure his contract, or failing that, cut him loose and take their chances on the youngsters.
