Just in case we hire this guy, I took a look at the Bears drafts since he's been their Director of College Scouting. As GM, Jerry Angelo I'm sure had the final say, but Gabriel has coordinated the team’s college scouting operation for the last five NFL drafts (since 2003).

Here are all their drafts in that span.

I give it mixed results overall. If he didn't steal Hester in the 2nd round in 2006, I'd say his last three drafts have been well below average, at best.

He did well in 2004, although Tank Johnson's issues and release hurt the draft grade now. If he didn't have his issues, that draft would have been even better looking back at it now.

He did pretty well in the middle rounds of his first draft (2003), like getting Briggs in the 3rd and decent 4-5 round talent.

2007 - Chicago Bears
1 31 Greg Olsen TE Miami (Fla.)
2 62 Dan Bazuin DE Central Michigan

5 167 Kevin Payne SAF Louisiana-Monroe
5 168 Corey Graham CB New Hampshire
7 221 Trumaine McBride CB Mississippi
7 241 Aaron Brant T Iowa State

2006 - Chicago Bears
2 42 Danieal Manning FS Abilene Christian
2 57 Devin Hester DB Miami (Fla.)
3 73 Dusty Dvoracek DT Oklahoma
4 120 Jamar Williams LB Arizona State
5 159 Mark Anderson DE Alabama
6 195 J.D. Runnels RB Oklahoma
6 200 Tyler Reed G Penn State

2005 - Chicago Bears
1 4 Cedric Benson RB Texas
2 39 Mark Bradley WR Oklahoma
4 106 Kyle Orton QB Purdue
5 140 Airese Currie WR Clemson
6 181 Chris Harris FS Louisiana-Monroe
7 220 Rod Wilson LB South Carolina

2004 - Chicago Bears
1 14 Tommie Harris DT Oklahoma
2 47 Tank Johnson DT Washington
3 78 Bernard Berrian WR Fresno State

3 68 Lance Briggs OLB Arizona
4 100 Todd Johnson DB Florida
4 116 Ian Scott DT Florida
5 139 Bobby Wade WR Arizona
5 143 Justin Gage WR Missouri
5 171 Tron LaFavor DT Florida
6 191 Joe Odom LB Purdue
6 206 Brock Forsey RB Boise State
7 261 Bryan Anderson G Pittsburgh

So, overall, he has regressed at finding talent. His first two drafts were much better overall than his last three.

I don't like what they did in the 1st round over the past 5 years. But they have done better finding talent in the muiddle rounds under him.

If I were him, I'd put the line, "Drafted Devin Hester in the 2nd round at #57 overall" at the very top of my resume in bright flashing lights.

Seems like his best draft was when he was working with Jauron.

I think I'll stick with Modraks scouting team.

Really Justa. I like most of those drafts. Can Modrak stay on as well?

as a scout, I think so. BUt Like I said in a different thread, He and Modrak combined could make one hell of a scouting team.

With Jauron gone, I guarantee most of his drafts were heavily influence by Mr. Ego Angelo.

'06 was a very solid one for the bears starting saftey , stud returner and a fantastic d-end in Anderson. If this guy can catch a break on 1st round picks he would be a gm already.

2004 was his only good year! In 07, he had 9 picks to work with, and IMO, squandered them for the most part...

Not looking good for this guy at all!!!

I don't think the Bills are going to hire anyone. Marv was just a mediator, calming a bad situation. His title meant little.

Modrak find Jauron the players on Draft day. Guy finds the FA for Jauron. Nothing really new.

Well, well, he's not perfect. We can't have him in Buffalo, then.

I fully agree. It's also a very reasonable assumption that he assumed more control/authority as time went on and less as he initially got the role.

Otherwise, that job description of his is as vague as could possibly be making me wonder WTH he did exactly. If he gets hired this will be yet another hire to file in the sh*& can!

Ergo, expect it to happen.

There's Justin Gage's name again. I didn't realize he was intially drafted by the Bears, but that makes it more plausible that he's a guy we'll target in FA with a previous tie to Jauron.

Would've loved Ingtars input on Gabriel .
