Just in case we hire this guy, I took a look at the Bears drafts since he's been their Director of College Scouting. As GM, Jerry Angelo I'm sure had the final say, but Gabriel has coordinated the team’s college scouting operation for the last five NFL drafts (since 2003).
Here are all their drafts in that span.
I give it mixed results overall. If he didn't steal Hester in the 2nd round in 2006, I'd say his last three drafts have been well below average, at best.
He did well in 2004, although Tank Johnson's issues and release hurt the draft grade now. If he didn't have his issues, that draft would have been even better looking back at it now.
He did pretty well in the middle rounds of his first draft (2003), like getting Briggs in the 3rd and decent 4-5 round talent.
So, overall, he has regressed at finding talent. His first two drafts were much better overall than his last three.
I don't like what they did in the 1st round over the past 5 years. But they have done better finding talent in the muiddle rounds under him.
If I were him, I'd put the line, "Drafted Devin Hester in the 2nd round at #57 overall" at the very top of my resume in bright flashing lights.
