After successful cup victories the Leafs sacked Imlach. When he came to Buffalo he set out to show them up. The old AHL Bisons were red white and blue and many fans wanted the new uni to be the same. At the time the home jerseys were white so he went with that. He chose gold because gold is better than silver (which was in the Leafs emblem - not white) and he chose a royal blue because it stood out more than the traditional Leafs navy blue. The strips and patches were an exact match.

He also chose to come to Buffalo over the Canucks because they were closer to and in the same division as the Leafs.

yes. Buffalo was added to the Eastern Conference. In 74-75 the conference was divided into two divisions and Toronto and Buffalo were still in the same division. Later there was a realignment that sent Toronto to the West.

It means if you answered slug you can't be older than 16. If you are 17, that doesn't put you in my category of being younger than 16 and liking the slug.

Obviously the classic is the best, and most of us would say that, but the real question is "which do you prefer, the mad cow or the slug?" Between the two, I prefer the slug. At least the slug is a stylized "logo" whereas the mad cow was literally just a buffalo's head sitting on the front of our jerseys.

That seems to be the problem with a lot of fans, when you mention logo,
we mean just the logo, nothing against the new uniforms, just the slug.
I would love to see our original true logo :oldskool: on our new uniforms.

I'm just sick of it. It seems like it comes up on here at least once a month. Every time we have 4 days without a game, it comes back.

I think it's because when the Sabres announced we were going back to the blue and gold, and two years ago the teams last game, they came out in the original uni's, and everybody loved it, and then they leaked the slug, and everybody's 'oh no' that better not be it, petitions started, the whole thing just started to suck from there on. The fans wanted the original back after the goathead was retired.
And they forcefed the slug, and that split the fan base, when we all should of been as one rooting for one of the best years we ever had. But Quinn jerked us all around and now we'll be pissing about this slug until it's gone.
I know I will, because that embarrassing thing, in my mind, will NEVER represent the Sabres to me. I'll never buy a thing with that slug, I hate it.
I hate the fighting between fans this has caused, it's caused me to be banned from this site I like alot, but I'm not going to change my mind, but am still rooting for the team like everybody! The only way the bickering stops, is when the fans finally get what they want, and I believe the majority would love to see something simular to our original logo, and get rid of the slug.
