Eric Johnson - 2004 stats speak for themselves as far as potential is concerned.
Ben Troupe - great size (6-4, 270), and decent speed to go with hands...used more as a blocker however.

Albert Haynesworth - Pro-Bowler is a MASSIVE force in the middle with a mean/nasty streak. If "Franchised"...worth whatever it takes!
Corey Williams - 7 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, 1 interception = better than all Buffalo DT's combined!
Paul Spicer - Being 6-4, 295...he can play Defensive Tackle in our system although he is an End on the Jags defense.

Karlos Dansby - Excellent size and speed...has put up great numbers in 4 years.
Michael Boley (RFA) - Put up tremendous numbers in Atlanta this year. Very quick and fast, hard hitter, decent hands, and young.
Demorrio Williams - Another Falcon who is a good linebacker on the market. A bit undersized, but his play makes up for it.
Kawika Mitchell - Good season with the Giants after 4 great seasons with the Chiefs. Smart OLB who had 2 sacks vs. the Bills this year.

Gary Baxter - Was an excellent corner for the Ravens, has great size with good speed...but is injury prone.
William James (Peterson) - A cover corner with good size, speed and hands...injury prone.

WHAT DO WE DO?
In Free Agency, I would like to see us sign the following players:
Back-Up Quarterback: Todd Collins. I think he would make a good mentor for Trent Edwards.
Running Back: If we trade Fred Jackson (I hope we don't), we would need some depth. Chris Brown would be a nice compliment to Marshawn Lynch.
Fullback: Mike Sellers...Neal and Richardson are getting old, and probably will not leave their respective teams. I would love to take a gamble and see if we could turn either T.J. Duckett or Ron Dayne into a fullback, give their height and weight.
Wide Receiver: Bryant Johnson or Justin Gage...Both have size and hands for the Red Zone.
Tight End: Ben Troupe or L.J. Smith...Both very athletic with good receiving skills that can stretch the field.
Offensive Line: At Center Jeff Faine has strength and smarts, and is also fairly young at 26. (or Brett Romberg, Jeremy Newberry and Alex Stepanovich.) At Guard, Floyd Womack would provide depth, and could also play Center if we do not sign one.
Defensive Line: Corey Williams (DT) and/or Paul Spicer (DE), who can also play DT. Damione Lewis (DT) is also a possibility because he played for Coach Bill Kollar while in St. Louis. Albert Haynesworth will get the "Franchise" Tag.
Linebacker: Although Jauron drafted him, Briggs will cost too much. Vrabel will resign with the Pats and Suggs will not come to Buffalo. Boss Bailey played for Jauron in Detroit and would fit in perfect here. Otherwise, Karlos Dansby would fit in very nice, as would Michael Boley, depending on what he would cost. I would like to see us go after Calvin Pace because he can play more than one position (DE/OLB) and he might not cost too much. Dontarrious Thomas, Reggie Torbor and Demorrio Williams are all young and very fast Linebackers that can hit, who would come at a cheap price.
Cornerback: It would upgrade our defense tremendously if we could bring in Nnamdi Asomugha, as he can hit hard and tackle. He is a great cover corner with freakish size. Other than him, either Travis Fisher, Quentin Jammer, William James or Drayton Florence would be a nice addition.
Safety: This would be simply for depth, and Mike Doss would make a great addition.

DRAFT FOR NEED?
Our BIGGEST NEEDS would have to be: DT, WR, TE, CB, OLB and a TRUE hard-nosed Fullback. I think we will, once again, have a great draft that produces at least a couple of starters...one on each side of the ball, just like Lynch and Posluszny. If we do not trade any picks, could this be our draft?
Rd. 1, #11 - Sedrick Ellis, USC (DT - 6-2, 295) - Explosive DT has been a dominant performer during his Trojans career.
Rd. 2, #42 - Martin Rucker, Missouri (TE - 6-5, 255) - Athletic TE is one of the most complete prospects at the position over recent years.
Rd. 3 #73 - James Hardy, Indiana (WR - 6-7, 220) - Big WR has been a force in '07 season, beating some of the nations best cover men.
Rd. 3 - Xavier Adibi, Virginia Tech (OLB - 6-2, 225) - Speedy OLB has a high level of development is ready to compete in the NFL.
Rd. 4 - Dwight Lowery, San Jose St. (CB - 6-1, 200) - Instinctive CB has good ball skills, which should help play as a rookie in the NFL.
Rd. 5 - Owen Schmitt, West Virginia (FB - 6-3, 260) - Throwback with incredible blocking strength and developed skills to run and catch.
Rd. 5 - Josh Barrett, Arizona St. (SS/OLB - 6-3, 230) - He's a hybrid who has been a catalyst in ASU's great defensive performances.
Rd. 6 - Zack Bowman, Nebraska (CB - 6-1, 200) - Athletic CB continues to make progress since returning from a serious knee injury.
Rd. 7 - Marcus Monk, Arkansas (WR - 6-6, 220) - Huge WR has shown big play ability after dealing with a knee injury.
Rd. 7 - Ben Moffitt, South Florida (ILB - 6-1, 240) - This tough ILB is always around the ball to finish plays.
----->I would not mind seeing us draft these players with the 11th overall pick in this year's draft:(No Fullback or Tight End is worth this pick.)
DT - Glenn Dorsey, LSU (6-2, 300)
DE - Chris Long, Virginia (6-5, 285)
CB - Malcolm Jenkins, Ohio State (6-0, 180)
CB - Antoine Cason, Arizona (6-1, 185)
LB - Dan Connor, Penn State (6-2, 235)
LB - James Laurinaitis, Ohio State (6-2, 235)
WR - Malcolm Kelly, Oklahoma (6-3, 210)
WR - Early Doucet, LSU (6-0, 200)
OT - Jake Long, Michigan (6-7, 320)
OT - Michael Oher, Mississippi (6-5, 325)
*(Not in any particular order of preference!)

*I cannot put a name on the General Manager, but I have a strange feeling that Jim Kelly is going to be brought on board as part of the plan in some capacity with this organization. (Sooner, rather than later.)
Offensive Coordinator - I believe this is going to come from within, although I wish this wasn't the case.
-Turk Schonert: Great relationship with Edwards, would make for smooth transition.
- Alex Van Pelt: Called all offensive plays for Frankfurt when QB's coach there, breaking down film increases all around knowledge.
- Charlie Coiner: Texas Southern offensive coordinator in 2000, worked with Jauron in Chicago.
- Eric Studesville: Has mentored some very good running backs, worked with Jauron in Chicago.
- Tyle Tolbert: Has mentored some very good wide receivers.
-Sean Kugler: Was Boise St. Assistant Head Coach during magical Bowl Game season, worked with Jauron in Detroit.
*** I believe that Schonert, Van Pelt and Coiner would be the most appropriate choices, if position is filled from within. It may just be me, but I think that the younger minds might be a little more creative and less conservative with the play-calling. Van Pelt might be the best choice due to his knowledge from breaking down all the film, he sees ALL the players' talents (strengths and weaknesses), and he has played relatively recently.
Offensive Line Coach - I think that Sean Kugler will be promoted to this duty, but don't count out that possibility of Hudson Houck coming on board.

A few quick things..

SHaun HIll (QB) is not likely to be available. He probably starts for SF next year over Alex Smith (who could be available, and I have no interest in)

Hackett would be the perfect WR here. However, for him to come to Buffalo, we'd have to grossly overpay for him, such as we did for Dockery last year. Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do to get your guy.

Dallas Clark would be the PRIME free agent for this team and this offense; but Indy could franchise him and I'd be willing to bet they do that, especially now that they locked up Bob Sanders.

Defensively, we MUST improve at DT. Haynesworth has about as much chance of hitting the open market as you do of being named Poster of the Year. Williams would be another Dockery case. We'd have to pay him Top 10 DT money, and IM not sure we would.

DE we are strapped at because of HORRIBLE management by Levy/Overdorf/GUy/Whomever. We have far too much invested in Kelsay and Schobel to invest good money into another DE. IF we end up getting a beast at DE, it's going to come likely via a mid round draft pick that blossoms into a star. Cross FA off the list here.

Lance Briggs is the best defensive player on the market. Unless Ralph is willing to pony up $7+ million per year, forget about it. I'd love him here, our LB corp would be ferocious. I"m also smart enough to know it aint happening.. PLus, if Wilson decides to actually try to win this offseason with strong established talent, I'd rather it be offensively. DeMario Williams could b ea guy we look at it should we look at a FA LB.

Secondary, I highly doubt we spend any significant money here. I think they like Greer/McGee enough with Kiwi as the nickel. They'd probably be much more adequate with a better front seven (and offense for that matter)

If you look closely enough it's there on the bottom. One of the reason I have been staying away from here (besides being on holiday skiing trips for the past few weeks) is because people do not appreciate other's effort to bring information and knowledge to this board, they just want to try to humiliate or act in some manner they feel will bring a negative response.

To put it nicely, read the information and focus on what's important (the info) and try to not be jackoffs.

I do appreciate the information.. It was informative. Which quite honestly is what made me question it to begin with.

The only thing you need to worry about is the information, real writers will fill in the rest for you to read. If I find / hear of something of value, I try to post it on here for all to know.

Hardy could go as high as the middle of the 1st round... Likely low 1st high second now way he lasts till the thrid round...Benett just came out ..I really like him...Played in tough SEC ....All time leading Receiver...40 time will be crucial...I say he will be available for us in rd 2 40th overall pick....6-1-205 Big enough to makes plays in the NFL ...

Thats an ideal draft, to me anyways, unfortunatly i think all will be gone by the time you have us drafting them with the exception of Rucker in the second.

As Pat points out, why make it so hard to see? Just put it in regular text as it's like quoting any other source. As I appreciate the information but also do agree with the Zone's general rule of conduct of giving credit due when needed which typically includes linking to the source of materials found. I didn't meant to be a jerkoff about it but didn't see it originally see it because again it's not easily seen.

skooby it was informative there are a couple people here and there that are signed now but deffinatly informative. i enjoyed it. in my opinion we are all better off focusing on the draft, it seems that "levy's blueprint" is 90% built through the draft and about 10% free agency though. i dont see us picking up any free agents this year that will spin heads. i mean really dockery though he is very good and had a great year if not over paid last off season i doubt anyone would have made a big deal about us signing him. and by the way that 7th round ben moffitt pick you had in another quote is a nice pick. i think he will go alittle sooner but he is a high motor high character player with great leadership skills and is a ballhawk. i went to tampa and saw the usf VS west virginia game and man that kid stood out.

with all the cash we have i suspect we will sign some FAs

of course i want briggs, but i'll take baily, or anyone who can add some size and versitility. w poz only playing a little bit we have one young LB, if the outside guys are vets that would help a lot over having a rook, poz and crow.

i'd love the GB or TEN DT to come over here, but i dunno if they will be there. a DT could fall to us in the draft tho.

i think we need a corner, don't know if we will sign a guy like that kid from the raiders (he'd be great), or just draft someone.

i think we will sign at least one big FA WR/TE, maybe two in total.

we'll add some LB, DT/DE, Oline, and secondary in the draft for sure, and we might spend high picks on WR and TE as well but we need to get at least one stud on each side of the ball in FA.

A very good post Skooby. Thanks for putting it together. Don't mind the haters.

Would Hardy and Rucker be ready to start? Because we need someone immediately to put our current players (Reed, parrish, Gaines, Royal) in their proper spots.

Don't we have enough DTs under 300? Why do we need Ellis or Corey Peterson then? Our DT situation was worse last year and we didn't address it, so I wouldn't count on a high round DT.

Ellis isn't likely, but if he is there, it would be very hard to pass up. But, I'm not wanting to wait that long before up grading. I want the DT from GB, Corey Williams. In fact, if it was our only FA addition, I would be happy. But, I think upgrading Ellison could be easily affordable. He sucked. So, it would he a huge success to get Williams and any WLB upgrade.

The Guy on Defense that we should target and he wont be gettin the money Briggs is, Karlos dansby form ARZ, he is a beast and would be great against run and can blitz, and is very big for a LBer, i think we stay with ARZ and pickup Johnson as well as WR, try and pick up a stout run defending DT, i like the guy from Oakland cant remember his name but he is coming off injury, just tryin to be realistic

Draft, i was sold a WR at 11, but it looks like no one is gradin there, so i think we get either best DT, or TE available, then get 2 WRs a FB, a CB, a C, and DE

:rockout: Great thread, Skoob. I know that must have taken a LOT of time to put together and many of us truly appreciate it.

After reading it, my wish list is:
Briggs, BJohnson, CWilliams, TCollins and Troupe in that order. That would leave us pretty much free to go BPA in the draft... so we'd have that going for us, which is nice.

if we waste another first rounder on a DT, i'm going to shoot myself.

we already tried on the cheap in FA with Triplett, we traded up for McCargo...and now you want us to spend another first rounder on the same position?

If the experts (the people paid to evaluate the players) feel DT is our weakest link, and they feel there is a significant upgrade available, and they draft it, I don't think I can find fault in that. I don't know if it was our weakest link, but I don't get paid to evaluate either. Besides, it is all relative.
