Giants agree to deal with veteran Levens

In a move that could signal the eventual end to Ron Dayne's tenure with the New York Giants, ESPN.com has learned that the team on Friday reached a contract agreement with unrestricted free agent tailback Dorsey Levens.

The nine-year veteran visited with Giants officials two weeks ago, liked the players and coaches with whom he met, and will almost certainly serve as the primary backup to starter Tiki Barber. The Giants told Levens and agent Hadley Engelhard that the tailback will be heavily used in "red zone" and perhaps short-yardage situations.

Engelhard confirmed his client will sign a three-year contract but declined to address the financial terms of the contract.
