Dolphins officials this morning phoned the other candidates who interviewed and informed them of the team's decision.

Sparano was thought to be the heavy favorite from the day Bill Parcells was hired and that speculation mounted when Parcells hired Jeff Ireland away from Dallas to be the team's new GM.

Sparano is a true football guy with a no-nonsense approach and a great connection with players. Two years ago, Sean Payton tried to hire him as the Saints offensive coordinator and he asked Parcells to let him go. Parcells, then with Dallas, balked and declined the request.

Dallas Cowboys (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=dal) assistant head coach Tony Sparano is the new Miami Dolphins (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/clubhouse?team=mia) head coach.

The two sides on Wednesday morning completed work on what ESPN.com has confirmed is a four-year contract worth about $2.5 million to $2.7 million per year.
Not counting the interim tenure of Jim Bates in 2004, Sparano becomes the sixth head coach in franchise history. In his first NFL head coaching job, Sparano inherits a team that won just one game in 2007; has obvious holes on the offensive side, including uncertainty at quarterback; and an aging defense.
On the positive side, the Dolphins own the top overall selection in the 2008 draft, and can either exercise it to choose a top-shelf prospect, or perhaps trade the choice for additional picks in the lottery. Sparano also will be surrounded by a strong support group of front-office executives he knows well.

Wait they hired someone who was highly successful in his respective job? They use past success as a factor in promoting people?

HA! suckers! Who does THAT!?

In all fairness, Turk didn't call the O-plays and we do have a system in place and a line that's been getting better. This maybe a better way and we have a easier schedule this season, so plan on some good things happening.

The league seriously needs to look into tampering in this case. It was the worst kept secret since 2 weeks ago, when the Cowboys were still in the playoffs.

Oh please, they would have to do the other 32 teams also.

And if it weren't for Marv, the Bills would never have hired a successful coach.

you have to give the fins more credit. They had less losses than we had players on injured reserve. thats an achievement

What was the record of your team this year?

Miami's record was bad enough to keep them out of the playoffs....just like the Bills. Were either of the teams successful? Not by a longshot, so who gives a crap what their records were?

Sparano 's contract is a little less than 11 million for 4 years.thats sucks, he's making a little more than I am.

What's Dick getting? :idunno:

Well many teams didn't make the playoffs but your record is usually a good sign of how far you have to go to become successful and have a chance to win it. You guys are so far away from the playoffs right now it's actually sad.

We'll be beating up on your team for the next few years, just plan on it.

Just about dead last, how is your teams ranked in the win loss column?? Dead last. That is the only stat that really matters.

Coming on here after your team laid a huge egg this season takes alot of balls, I give you credit for that. Knocking a team that torched your teams butt for 2 straight years head to head is a bit crazy though.

Good to see you can find flaws in our team when you team is totally flawed from top to bottom.
