Why we struggle on short yardage...

I think there are 2 factors that contribute to our struggles on short yardage plays....

    1) Melvin Fowler is the obvious concern. He lacks power and the ability to drive back bigger DTs, or any DTs for that matter.

    2) Derrick Dockery 6'6, Brad Butler 6'7... Its not easy for guys that tall to get low and get leverage in order to gain 1 or 2 yards. When the defense knows a run is coming for sure all they have to do is crash low and it stuffs everything up.

    3) No true FB which was another obvious concern which as we have seen is being addressed.

Something will have to change on the interior or else we will have a lot of drives end on 3-1 and 3-2 plays.

I wonder have confident they feel about Brad Butler as our starting RG next year.

While I agree that Butler's height may hinder his short yardage run blocking, I think he will only get better and better at RG.
Should have known, way back in 1960 when we drafted Richie Lucas Number 1, that this would be a long, hard ride. But who could have known it would be THIS bad?
