In all seriousness, I think the boot is for plantar fascitis. PF is often painful, but most people who have it can still function in athletics. I have it from running, but not so bad that I wear the boot (of course I don't have millions of dollars and a SB Championship riding on how well I run due to the pain either). I'd bet that's what it is though - it's more a condition from overuse than an "injury." Here is a page with similar boots/splints for plantar fascitis:
