How many times over the course of this season....

....has RJ said something to the effect of:

"Thomas Vanek misses the open net"
"Vanek would have had a goal but the puck jumped over his stick"
"Here's Vanek and oh my! it's off the crossbar"

etc? Someone should put a video or audio compilation together of Vanek's "almosts".

It's hard to tell because I don't get to watch many games- I usually listen to them on XM or sabres.com- but it seems like Vanek's always close but just short. The guy's confidence is completely shaken. What's it going to take to get it back?

assists aren't goals. Vanek isn't making $49 million a year to have a multiple-assist game a couple times a month against a non-conference opponent.

I didn't see anything in his post saying anything to that fact. You asked what's going to get Vanek back to his former self and RS stated what he thought might.

My point is that setting up both goals and the team winning might be what he needs to relax and get back on track.

i dont care much how a player gets their points as long as they are producing. generally an assist is worth about 50% of a goal because with two assists on most goals they range from 100% to pretty much zero actual contribution to the goal

vanek makes some nice passes and usually doesnt get crap assists so he should get credit for that. still his goal production is pretty pathetic and he deserves criticism there

idk how long its going to take him to get out of this funk but hes absolutely getting chances. its gotta be driving him crazy because he appears to be snake bit, hitting posts and crossbars and goalies making unreal saves over and over again this year. he also seems to be missing the net more than usual and of course there was that tap on a perfect pass from stafford he botched last game

hes frustrating as hell to watch much of the time this year because hes certainly good enough to be doing better but hes still a force when hes out there, even if hes not worth his salary right now. and i hope to god he stops taking his seemingly one dumbass penalty per game or i just may kick my tv in one of these nights
