    Collective bargaining update....

NFL Players Association director Gene Upshaw expects the owners to terminate the current Collective Bargaining Agreement in November 2008.
That would make 2009 the last year of the salary cap, and 2010 an uncapped year. The players will not agree to another salary cap if it gets to that point. Upshaw says the NFLPA won't hesitate to strike. "This isn't hockey, where the players agreed to a 25 percent pay cut," a defiant Upshaw said. "We're not going to do anything like that."

Upshaw's a dick. If it goes to an un-capped year, there will probably be a lock-out for most of the teams, and NE and Dallas can play each other 16 times.

If the majority votes for it I don't see how there will be any lockout.

There's not going to be another lockout.

He is talking big **** right now to get the owners to flinch. When it comes down to it, a deal will get done.

The NFL needs a salary cap. If it gets like MLB, cities like Buffalo and Green Bay will be nonexistent within 5-7 years.

It's a bargaining strategy...scrap the CBA, correct the ****-ups from the last agreement before 2010 with the threat of no football looming for everybody. They would be voting with the understanding that a lock-out may be a necessary tactic to pull when the cap goes away.

Gene Upshaw is a complete *****. I know many of you will say that he's just doing his job, but he and the players union can eat a big one. The players are currently getting roughly 59% of all the revenue generated. Players salaries are out of control and every team in the NFL is feeling the effects of a collective bargaining agreement that had no business being passed in the first place. I say let the players strike. I don't think they're going to get a whole lot of support from the public. Maybe when the players are ready to come back to earth and realize that they play a freaking game, then something reasonable can be done.
