View Full Version : Belichick one year suspension could be coming.....

ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reports that if ex-Patriots employee Matt Walsh is in possession of the Rams' walkthrough video from Super Bowl XXXVI, coach Bill Belichick will be suspended for one season. Apparently commissioner Roger Goodell informed Belichick, upon fining him $500,000 and stripping the Patriots of a first-round pick, that a second strike would cost him an entire year. That means Belichick's last game before 2009 could be Super Bowl XLII. Interestingly, the Giants held their walkthrough Saturday, as regularly scheduled. The Pats did not hold a walkthrough.

Love it. They should suspend all members of the Patriots' coaching staff who were there at the time.

If they suspend him, he'll simply retire

they should also make them forfeit the superbowl. Now that would be hillarious.

why? they strip teams of wins in college football...I think it would show that Goodell has a pair if he took the win(s) away from NE.

That walsh kept copies of everything from what I have read. He wasn't happy about being fired.

It would be in name only, tho. No one will really consider whoever gets the trophy to have actually "won" the game.

As a side note, will teams that he was the D-coordinator of have to forfeit SuperBowls as well? :D

They'd still be in the Super Bowl even if WYS was the coach.

The Pats. have a ton of talent that is on the field.

The truth of the matter is obvious that NE may have had an edge on the teams that they have played and having game film or walkthroughs of them, but if you execute a play and just plain ole kick the other team's ass with physical power then no one can complain about spying by taping. No question that taping a walk through before a game is poor sportsmanship and crossing the line.

While I don't think that ti is clearly possible to tell which games NE won were a pure result of taping or not I would be satisfied with NE losing their other 1st round pick this year because we could be one pick closer to getting a better player then the one we will pick.

I really just want Buffalo to get better and beat those Pats the old fashion way. It will make us all feel better and really put the mental aspect of the Pats in the rear view mirror.

Bull**** to a one-year suspension.

It's a far greater crime to cheat at this level than it is to get caught puffing on a blunt a couple of times.

Put the hammer down...Get rid of the bastard for good and send a stern message to everybody else...

You **** with the integrity of the game, you're gone. End of story.

there is something about Bellidick that makes me believe he would enjoy getting gang raped by a bunch of large inmates...I guess that punishment should be out of the question.

The Patriots choose win at all costs over sportsmanship and let the better team win. They are the poster child of what is wrong in sports today...

Hopefully Walsh comes out with info even worse than what we are hearing and has proof. It would be great if the team got busted. Maybe the league could take all their draft picks or ban them from the playoffs for a few years. :snicker:

The only issue I have with a lifetime ban is that Im not sure how aggregious an act this is. Stealing signs is common place in every sport, whether its the guy on 2nd base of the batter stealing the catchers sign (which is shown every play on TV) to know what the next pitch is, or North Carolina knowing what Duke is going to run come in March when Coach K calls for play #1. Stealing signs has happened and will continue to happen for the rest of the time we play sports. Did BB cheat? You bet he did, but I dont think it messed with the integrity of the game. Lets at least be realistic about whats been going on. Now video taping a walk through is a little bit more but Im not going to jump to conclusions until I see what this Walsh guy actually has.

This is much ado about nothing. People are jumping the gun here. Matt Walsh isn't the most credible guy in the world, and people what he can say or is in possession of is pure speculation.

If this ends up true it ends up true, but for all your wishful thinking there is nothing there right now. Time will tell.

Either way, they have to sign Moss, and the games will go on.

If Walsh actually has walk through video of the Rams practice prior to the 2002 SB, then the Pats are in serious trouble. The $$ and stakes involved is far higher than just another regular season sports contest.

I agree IF he has them it changes things but as of now we sound like a bunch of fans who are really bitter about a tactic that is common that was taken to the next level.

it's not the tactic that's so appauling...it would be the fact that they were asked to disclose all the illegal activities and said they complied. If it comes out that they didn't comply I would say a lifetime band wouldn't be terribly inappropriate.
