View Full Version : Apparently the Patriots pulled a "Marv" with Asante Samuel...

You remember all the **** that Marv Levy got when he gave a gentleman's agreement to Nate Clements so he would come to camp in 2006? Apparently the New England Patriots did the same thing to CB Asante Samuel.

The Patriots named Samuel their franchise player last year, but the cornerback refused to accept the one-year tender and stayed out of training camp. As part of the agreement to get Samuel into camp before the end of the 2007 preseason, the Patriots promised not to use the franchise tag on him again.

A promise is a promise. Did Brady give him a promise ring?

The difference was that NE knew they had a team that could compete for a Championship. Same reason the Chargers didn't trade Michael Turner.

Marv was in his first year of a rebuild and could have leveraged Nate in a trade. We need players but instead he got nothing.

Your not comparing apples to apples.

The Nate hand shake was one of Marv's dumber moves.

I dont like the move period. But it shows Marv isnt the only one.

Drafting Whitner was his dumbest.

Yeah, it's not looking like the brightest move yet, maybe he'll figure it out this year.

Didn't Chicago do the same thing with Briggs too?

I'm not counting out Whitner just yet. Especially not until after he plays this next season. I expect him play better then his rookie year with Simpson back in the fold. Having inexperience lined up next to you hurts any player. Just ask Langston Walker about his playing days in Oakland. I'm sure you all remember bashing his play when we signed him. Poor run support also overshadowed Donte. It's hard to make plays when stuck up in the box most of the game.
