Look, Rivers is a good player but Xavier Adibi we can get in the 2nd or possibley the 3rd. He had far better stats and played on a average team. He is a more well rounded version of Rivers. Here are videos and stat comparisons.

couchscout.com rates him better than rivers too. He'd be a great pickup following the lackluster free-agency period i foresee. WR,TE,OLB. good draft to compensate for ralph trying to take money with him....

I'm actually fine with the lackluster FA period. I would much rather have a team full of guys that we drafted with a few big name guys like Dockery sprinkled in here and there. Give me a great draft over a bunch of overpaid FA's any day.

As long as we use cash to cap, hiring over priced FAs is better than not spending it at all. Either way, the money is gone.

True, but I would hate to see us do something like give Marcus Trufant the $90,000,000 that he's asking for. That's the kind of overpaid FA I'm talking about.

I just dont see us spending any money on starters. we will do the typical bills FA in that we pick up a bunch of third stringers and has beens and busts(see teyo johnson) and try to make a championship caliber team from the dreggs of the NFL. Its so frustrating. hard to get amped up and buy those season tix i have said i was gonna buy for soooooo long.

Can we actully wait till March before we start calling the bills cheap? Teyo Johnson and Darian Barnes were players that the bills signed durring the playoffs, I hardly think the bills brass see them as peices of the championship puzzle.

Yeah, everyone needs to remember that teams sign players like T. Johnson every year to fill in slots for training camp. Sometimes you strike gold and one of them will make the team, most of the time they won't even make the team.

Great points. You have to choose carefully who you go after in FA and then try to hit a homerun with your draft. This is the only way to win a championship.

I don't think so...he'll be gone in the first 14 picks of the draft. IMO

I understand how the offseason should go night hawk. 'splain to me why it dont so much happen here in buffalo?(yes, the '07 draft was great, love the o-line, still a sceptic, think we got lucky in ways.)
I admire your optimism venis. every year i hope for the best and prepare for the worst. Im from western NY. Its in my blood.

I hear ya. I don't understand why we can't finally put all together. I believe it has to do something with Ralph Wilson and the bad karma he brings to the team.

Back to the topic at hand, Adibi does seem to be an intriguing choice, although I don't know much more about him than what you stated MLynch. Frees up our 1st for Sedrick Ellis.

Personally I'd rather pick up Teddy Lehman or Caleb Millar to push back Ellison into a depth role and then try to draft SEAN LEE of PENN STATE with the R1 in 2009.

Now here's a kid who's Poz/Connor rolled into one and would be an absolute beast

Rivers 6-2, 236
Adibi 6-2, 220

Adibi is a fast paced LB who can make plays, but his technique needs work and he's over aggressive at times and will run himself out of plays. The thing about Rivers is that he's probably the smartest (in terms of Football IQ) LB in this class. He breaks down plays as they happen and fills holes. That doesn't always lead to tackles, sometimes it leads to a back cutting to the outside. Rivers is not as fast as Adibi nor as good a blitzer. But he's better in coverage, a more sound tackler, and a smarter player. There is no question to me that Rivers is a far and away a better LB, but Adibi will bring the lumber and make a few plays a game for you. I just like Rivers consistency and game play better.

I'm with you man, but I would love to have a player with Adibi's skills at our LB corps.

i have watched every game that adibi has ever played at virginia tech (im alum as most of u know)... adibi is the type of player that rarely gets beat and he makes big plays every game, consistently. he is a very athletic player, a great locker room guy, and he is a pretty smart guy in his own right, just going from the interviews i have seen with him on numberous occassions.

i would love to add him to the team, but i wouldnt be unhappy with rivers either. adibi could be a steal in the 2nd round though. i havent looked enough to know where he is predicted to go, but i would say strong 2nd rounder.

Umm, NO!

I just cant agree. I watched a bunch of Adibi's games and he tends to be very quiet most of the time. Vince Hall looked better IMO on the same team but lacks size.

Keith Rivers is a consistent player who is always around the ball and has a better knack for the big play.

Thanks. We weren't cheap last year. Nobody can dispute that we spent a fair amount of money. I think the dispute is as to whether it was spent wisely (Dockery, Walker, Kelsay resigning etc).

I absolutely agree with you man, last year we did spend. But I think that Ralph's history shows that he will spend big one year and then go on a couple year streak where he does nothing but sign guys like Royal.

I don't foresee us spending much at all this off-season. There really isn't much talent out there to spend on and honestly, there just isn't anyone out there that's worth a huge contract right now.

I know I sound like a broken record with this but I would much rather have a great draft than have a great FA period. One good draft can change your teams history, a couple of good FA's can't do that.

Jeff Faine would be at the top of my list of atainable FA's
