Martin Brodeur, seen here sporting one version of the proposed jerseys emblazoned with corporate logos.

Now a group of influential NHL players that includes New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, Dallas's Marty Turco, Detroit's Dominik Hasek and Edmonton's Dwayne Roloson want the league's – and inevitably the Leafs' – uniforms altered again. In what would be a radical overhaul that might incite hockey traditionalists but surely gratify some of the league's cash-strapped owners, several NHL goalies have asked the league and its players union to consider starting a so-called Goaltender's Club. Revenue-generating initiatives for the club could include placing a corporate logo on the jerseys of the league's 60-odd goalies.

The players are working alongside prominent hockey marketer Brad Robins and Edmonton player agent Ritch Winter. Robins and Winter estimate on-uniform ads might generate upwards of $30 million a season for the NHL. Robins has already briefed Gary Bettman on the concept, though it's uncertain whether the NHL commissioner has endorsed the idea.

Of course the players are in on it- it equals more money for payroll.

I think it looks awful.

Plus, I'd like to see some research that proves this advertising actually works. "Well, I was going to buy a Philips receiver, but Brodeur had Panasonic on his jersey last night so I guess I'll get that one instead."

op we are all gods children but most of us are super dumbass sheep children

advertising works like ***king charm. wtf do you think they want it plastered everywhere. its like hypnotism that makes people buy stuff they dont need and pay a price waaay higher than they should. they intentionally cultivate this feeling of lack that plays on basic insecurity to incite buying urges that temporarily make people feel less empty. pretty whack but also pretty reliable

then theres the issue of simple repetition. all you gotta do is show or say the same thing a few times and most people start to believe its true. doesnt matter how ***king stupid it is, they reflexively like it and/or believe it cuz it becomes familiar. works for everything from logos to business cards to bald faced lies. the w.p.e. has made a career out of it

part of me hates the idea but part of me doesnt really care. if it can help teams keep ticket prices from skyrocketing more then fine. i doubt thats what it would be used for tho

I try to avoid any product that advertises every five minutes or whose commercials are just plain insulting....don't worry I will never be "gellin like a felon".

yeah i use advertising against product makers by seeking out products that dont advertise. they usually are the same or better quality and at a cheaper price

I think it cheapens the hell out of the sport.

Advertising on jerseys remind me of the crap Arena Football and all those other wastes of time sports.

Dude, no. That would be some of the dumbest **** and would be yet another reason why the NHL is at the bottom of the proverbial totem pole.

That patch on the right side is an advertisement. If I had better pics, it would be a lot easier to see. Miller's is for Bob Johnson Chevrolet.

Depends on how they do it. Too many different corporate logos on the jerseys would look like ****. In the EIHL we have teams like Sheffield and Coventry with so many sponsor's logos it's impossible to tell the actual team logo apart, whereas some teams like Belfast and Edinburgh have higher profile sponsors and so can get away with fewer logos.

It never looks great, but in a league starved for cash (like the EIHL is) it's a necessary evil. The NHL doesn't need to do it however, and I believe it would just look stupid.

I really dont see what the big deal is.. it would help the NHL more than anything.

The league needs more $$ to do more advertising/marketing etc.

Take a look at the Euro jerseys.

Depends how it's done as well. I don't think our jerseys look too bad, because the main logo on the jersey is still the team crest. The Coors logo does seem to get bigger every year though.

I can live with the colors (hell we have to watch the Dolphins twice a year) but the ads just look so cheap.
