The Santa Rosa Press Democrat's Matt Maiocco "fully expects" the 49ers to show interest in free agent DE Justin Smith. The Niners got away with an undersized right end in Marques Douglas the past three seasons, so Smith could work at 6'4/274. Smith is likely to command a six- or seven-year deal including over $15 million in guarantees.Dude, when the **** did the Niners become the Cowboys and Redskins? It seems like anytime a big name hits FA they are on it.

Don't forget that the Niners traded their 7 overall draft pick. So, they don't have to worry about the ridiculous salary for that player. They can use the money somewhere else. Other than that, I don't know. Did they get a new GM or something? What made this team into the Washington Redskins!??!?

It's called an attempt to return to past glory. As the owner of the 49ers seems to be hell bent on getting his team back to where it was in the 80s/90s ie making the playoffs/winning. Smith actually makes a lot of sense with Bryant Young retiring they have a hole at DE and Justin Smith has the size/tackling ability to be a solid 3-4 DE.

The Bucs will show interest in impending free agent DE Justin Smith, according to the St. Petersburg Times. The Bucs have the money to spend, but it's unclear where Smith would fit in Tampa Bay. He's not the heavy pressure player the Bucs usually look for.
